Imerge Launches Ultra Compact Playback Unit – Experience the Mini Client

Imerge, the internationally acclaimed provider of multi-room audio and video entertainment solutions, has launched a new High Definition Mini Client playback device that is ideally suited to installations where space is at a premium.

This powerful, compact unit works in conjunction with the new Imerge MS1-3D range of media servers to offer local playback of DVDs as well as music and 2D HD movies, including full HD audio.

Weighing just 450g and smaller than two DVD cases, the Imerge Mini Client is supplied with VESA 75/100 mounts so that it can be mounted or hidden behind a TV screen without being obtrusive or detracting from the room décor. On a Super yacht with many cabins, for example, customers can archive and store all of their music and movies on the main MS1-3D server, yet still provide playback to each zone individually and with no compromise in sound or picture quality.

Each Mini Client installed connects to the main MS1-3D server, which can be housed in an equipment room, using GB Ethernet, thus doing away with costly and unsightly wiring. As well as delivering 2D HD playback via the Mini Client, the main server can also store and play DVDs as well as 2D and 3D Blu-ray movies in full 1080p High Definition quality to larger screens and movie theatres. Should other additional 3D zones be required, more MS1-3D clients can be added into the system, thus also providing more local archiving.

Graham Boswell, Sales Director for Prism Sound, which now owns the Imerge brand, says: “The Mini Client, which was shown as a prototype at ISE 2012, was developed in direct response to installers’ requests for a playback unit that was small enough to be unobtrusive, yet powerful enough to deliver the quality that Imerge customers expect. With very low power consumption and being four times smaller than its nearest competitor, the Mini Client is ideal for situations where space is tight as customers can house the MS1-3D server elsewhere and simply tap into its power and archiving capabilities via Ethernet.”

The introduction of the MS1-3D and Mini Client combination consolidates Imerge’s pioneering work in audio and media servers by offering the market a 4th generation entertainment solution that cements its position as a market leader.

The MS1-3D is a complete media server combining the highest quality playback of music and movies with an extensive range of additional benefits, making it the most compelling high-end media server on the market. The unit includes a multiple language user interface for international customers and an iPhone controller app that puts the user in complete control of the system.

The new MS1-3D integrates fully with the companion XiVaSafe high-reliability redundant disk storage array, which ensures that customers don’t lose media in the unlikely event of a disk failure. The network storage can also be used to store user documents and features RAID-6 technology meaning that up to two disk drives can fail without losing content compared to just the one in competing products – an important consideration when systems are remotely located. Imerge-branded server products are complemented by the XIVA on-line music store and a range of hardware and software accessories.

ihiji Network Management as-a-Service Platform Created for IT Professionals Now in Private Beta

Austin, TX – April 27, 2012 – ihiji announces today that the company is in private beta with a next generation platform for Network Management as-a-Service (NMaaS), created for IT Professionals and VARs (Value Added Resellers). Based on the same cloud-based architecture as the Company’s award-winning residential Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) product, ihiji invision, the Network Management solution lowers a company’s capital and operating expenditures, increases productivity, and improves profit margins by minimizing equipment and network outages.

ihiji’s NMaaS platform provides real and effective management solutions. When in use, IT Professionals receive alerts regarding equipment status, making it easier than ever to remotely manage installations and reduce the time taken to isolate and repair issues with network-connected devices. The initial setup is simple and requires only a single low cost network appliance at each location. Subsequent configuration and management can be done remotely using tools within ihiji’s cloud-based portal, including remote access to the site without the need for a VPN connection. Once deployed at the client site, the ihiji appliance securely communicates system health and status data through the portal to the VAR in real-time. With analytics readily available, the VAR can identify the cause or source of issues faster and resolve them more efficiently, often without the added cost or requirement of sending a service technician to the site.

The ihiji solution is both practical and versatile. It is ideal for IT VARs that service Small to Medium Businesses (SMBs), IT organizations who manage a large number of remote branch locations, and, for those instances where a traditional server-based Remote Monitoring and Management tool is not practical due to requirements, scope, or budgetary constraints. “Often times the full toolset provided by a typical RMM solution is more complex than what is needed at a small or medium business or branch location which typically only requires network management and basic server information,” says ihiji VP of technical operations Michael Maniscalco. “The ihiji solution is a cost effective and powerful option that can fill the void within many Managed Service Providers’ (MSPs) offerings. In fact, our scalable platform can be used in tandem with traditional RMM software for installations which require more robust server or workstation management.”

ihiji’s cost effective network management solution enables a business to evolve, progressively moving to more efficient and effective cloud-based services. The low-cost appliance makes multiple site support possible without the added expense of numerous dedicated servers. Likewise, ihiji replaces the expense and
hassle of managing an enterprise RMM infrastructure with the convenience of a single network management tool. Since it is not tied to a particular manufacturer, ihiji’s solution also monitors equipment from multiple vendors – a solid benefit that supports IT organizations working with disparate network equipment. ihiji’s NMaaS platform is simply a dynamic, powerful, and comprehensive solution.

ihiji INV-APP-500 Network Appliance

With this next-generation solution now in private beta, ihiji is seeking participants from the SMB and/or IT VAR channels. Interested parties are encouraged to learn more by visiting http://itbeta.ihiji.com/, emailing itbeta@ihiji.com, or calling 512.538.0520 ext. 2003.

SIM2 Partners with goHDR for world first in television technology at NAB 2012

Miramar, Florida—April 2012—Innovative television technology that’s as clever as the human eye is to be showcased by University of Warwick spinout company goHDR at the NAB Show® in Las Vegas, later this month. SIM2’s first High Dynamic Range Display, the HDR47E monitor, will be used in the demonstration showing the HDR content produced by goHDR.

goHDR will provide the world with its first glimpse of High Dynamic Range (HDR) video, screened on the SIM2 HDR display, enabling viewers to see images with exceptional lighting detail. goHDR is developing compression technology that will enable the huge data streams produced by HDR video cameras to be displayed on a TV screen.

“We are proud to be part of goHDR’s new video technology showcase in Las Vegas. Our HDR47E monitor is a technological tour-de-force developed by SIM2 engineers to make full use of the real-life dynamic range of HDR images,” says Alberto Fabiano EVP SIM2 USA Inc. “The goHDR presentation will be, yet again, another opportunity to show the world SIM2′s technology leadership: an experience that streams down to our entire line of precision products hand-made in Italy.”

Alan Chalmers, Professor of Visualization at WMG, University of Warwick and Innovation Director at goHDR, explains: “High Dynamic Range video is the next big step in TV imaging – similar to the change from black and white to color TV. For the first time, viewers will be able to see scenes on TV just as they would in real life, without losing detail in the glare of bright sunlight or in deep shadow.”

“The data stream produced by HDR cameras is huge – equivalent to a CD worth of data per second. To address this issue, goHDR has produced two products: an Encoder which compresses the data to allow it to be transferred to a display, and a Media Player, which reverses the process and allows the pictures to be viewed with all the glorious lighting detail preserved,” says Professor Chalmers.

“We are very excited to be working with SIM2 to display HDR content on the world’s first commercial HDR display,” says Professor Chalmers. “TV viewers will get an exclusive glimpse at the significant difference that this technology will make to their viewing experience. HDR is coming. At NAB you will be able to see what the future will be like.”

Over the past two years goHDR has had exclusive access to the world’s first true HDR video camera, built by German company SpheronVR, and has produced a number of short films to showcase the technology. This will be the first time the company has been able to demonstrate its work, using SIM2’s HDR47E monitor, to a wide audience, outside the laboratory.

The film clips produced by goHDR are also available on the company’s website (www.gohdr.com) where they have been specially treated, using a technique called tonemapping, to give an idea of what they would look like on an HDR display.

Note to Editors:
goHDR is a software business, whose niche is to provide advanced data compression algorithms to all those who are developing High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology. Its aim is to be the leader in the software that enables HDR video. For more information, go to www.gohdr.com

Screen Innovations Experiences Explosive Growth; Appoints Key Personnel and Expands Organization

Austin, TX – March 15, 2012 – Screen Innovations (SI), a leading US-based projection screen manufacturer, today announces that the company is experiencing explosive 40% growth, citing both domestic and international sales expansion and strategic employee appointments as the primary catalyst.

A relative newcomer to the projection screen category, SI has amassed a cult-like following that can be directly tied to the value and virtue of its innovative product offering. While much has been recently written about two-piece projection, unique, multi-purpose screen technologies such as those found in Screen Innovations’ Black Diamond screens represent a game-changing opportunity for integrators and designers worldwide.

SI attributes some of the explosive growth to the lack of margin found in traditional pixel-based flat panel displays. “TVs still have a place in the world for sure, but they are being replaced by larger, more energy efficient display technologies, and projection screens are now part of that equation” says SI President Ryan Gustafson. “We knew we were on to something big back in 2005 when we manufactured and sold our first screens to Gary Wermuth at WAVE Electronics in Houston, Texas. Since then, we’ve expanded the scope of our operation significantly, and continue to evolve our product line at a feverish pace in order to meet market needs.”

To support their explosive growth, SI has made several strategic personnel appointments:
Brandon Holmes and Dan Poirier join the SI Engineering team, providing needed skills and intelligence to further develop and expand the line.

Brandon Holmes brings more than a decade’s worth of engineering and technical sales experience in the commercial screen industry (LCD/Plasma/Projector) to the SI team. Culminating from many years as the principle Engineer for highly reliably outdoor LCD displays and Digital Signage Solutions architecture, Holmes demonstrates “solid design and testing fundamentals which lend well to SI’s commitment of delivering perfectly reliable and finished products.“

Dan Poirier possesses nearly 30 years of invention, manufacturing, engineering, product and process equipment development, plus precision machining and fabrication skills to Screen Innovations. Poirier’s prior creative accomplishments include the invention of processing equipment using linear servos, rotary servos, and piezo linear actuators, as well as Pneumatic Logic, Stepper and PLC controls. This, plus his background with consumer product development and custom thin film manufacturing process equipment design and build fits perfectly with SI’s initiatives, make him a valuable addition to the Engineering team.

Shannon Gustafson and Jay Biedermann join Blake Vackar in leading the Sales team, managing accounts for their respective territories, further developing the company’s network and reach through strategic partnerships.

Shannon Gustafson recently made her re-entry back into the SI workforce after a brief stint away to start a family. The proud mother of three-year old twins, Taylor and Austin, Shannon manages all aspects of the company’s international sales and marketing efforts. Living abroad for much of her life, Shannon has a unique ability to successfully manage a diverse international clientele. Boasting impressive double-digit growth figures during challenging economic times, Shannon has truly made her mark on the company and serves as an inspiration to those around her. “As a woman, wife, and mother, I appreciate the products we design and sell. As an employee, I am thrilled at the solutions we provide. By increasing our international presence, dealers and distributors worldwide now recognize that SI represents an unparalleled opportunity to provide their customers a superior entertainment experience.”

Jay Biedermann joined SI in January as the company’s Director of Commercial Sales Development. Formerly with DMX Music, where he won the Annual Circle of Excellence Award several years in a row, Jay brings a wealth of hands-on experience to the newly formed position. Already familiar with the SI line and market strategies, Jay has developed a keen strategy to expand SI’s reach into the commercial market. With a consultative approach and an eye for detail, he works closely with integrators and systems designers to ensure they have the tools and resources needed to properly design, specify, and install two-piece projection systems utilizing Screen Innovations screens. “SI’s technological prowess is virtually unmatched in the field. Revolutionary products like Black Diamond make my job especially fulfilling, as they allow me to demonstrate the innumerable ways these screens outperform the competition on a daily basis.”

Blake Vackar, who is now a well-known face for the SI brand, joined the company from D-Tools, and serves as the Director of US Sales. Managing all aspects of the company’s domestic sales strategy, Blake spends his time educating and inspiring others on the virtues and benefits of using Screen Innovations’ products. The face and voice behind many of the company’s educational videos that are showcased on the SI website, Blake utilizes his prior experience as an integrator to guide dealers to projection screen technology bliss, enjoying the fruits of his labor immensely. “To work with such a capable and creative group is just so cool,” he says, furthering “I get to show dealers how to reinvent themselves through two-piece projection, during the most expansive time the category has ever witnessed. To say our projection screens are life-changing may seem a little over the top, but there are times when it feels that way, based on the overwhelming response we get on a fairly regular basis.”

Screen Innovations’ trajectory from a garage-based business to a well-established internationally recognized projection screen powerhouse has been “a labor of love,” according to SI President Ryan Gustafson. “It has been incredibly fulfilling, and I am both proud and humbled at the same time whenever I think about how far we have come in such a short time,” said Gustafson. “Projection screen technology is finally hitting the mainstream now, and although we’ve been banging on this drum for many years, the technology has finally progressed to a state where it is truly a viable and appealing solution for many of today’s video-centric installations. In fact, this evolution is what motivates and drives us. While we understand and appreciate the world’s dependence on pixel-based displays, we believe that two-piece projection can -and will- justifiably surpass those technologies in both the residential and commercial spaces in the near future.”

Bringing a lifetime of inspired innovation to the SI team, Ryan Gustafson is the grandson of an inventor and is a consummate innovator himself. Spearheading many of the design and engineering initiatives, Ryan works closely with his teams to ensure the unique needs of SI’s diverse clientele is being met with each product delivered. “We are returning profitability to our dealers by providing them the solutions they need at an affordable price, backed by the best warranty in the business, and supported by a great group of people who are truly dedicated to their success,” he says.

An insatiable force behind the enterprising young company, Gustafson works tirelessly to promote SI technologies, initiatives, and accomplishments, often finding inspiration from family, friends, or during his time spent in the field. “I see opportunity everywhere I go. Sure, I don’t sleep much, but then again, does any father of three-year old twins?” he jokes.

Black Diamond, SI’s flagship projection screen, stormed onto the scene last year, upping the category’s ante significantly. Zero Edge designs introduced in 2011 added a plasma TV-like viewing experience to the Black Diamond line. Because of their pencil-thin bezel, projected images seem to ‘float’ off the wall, as though not restricted by any bounds. Representing a unique opportunity for dealers and consumers alike, Black Diamond Zero Edge price-points rival -or often beat- traditional flat panel displays, and the screens work brilliantly in either light or dark, dedicated or multi-use spaces in either residential or commercial environments. They are currently the only native black projection screens on the market.

Not one to sit idle, Screen Innovations will announce new product designs in the upcoming months. In fact, several new residential and commercial products are set for unveiling at Infocomm, June 13-15, 2012 in Las Vegas, NV, and CEDIA Expo, September 5-8, 2012 in Indianapolis, IN. SI will make pre-show product announcements the week prior to each event.

Serving as Screen Innovations’ newly appointed PR firm of record, Katye (McGregor) Bennett of KMB Communications will spearhead SI’s communications efforts, working closely with Gustafson and the team to execute strategically targeted PR, marketing, and promotional endeavors. Bennett, who has been in the Consumer Electronics industry for nearly 20 years, brings hands-on experience with retail, distribution, light manufacturing, and supply chain and event logistics that not only complements, but also serves the diverse needs of the company well. “I started KMB Communications last year on the heels of my wedding and on the eve of CEDIA, knowing that I wanted to work with uniquely positioned, entrepreneurial innovators in the industry. It is an honor and an inspiration to work with the Screen Innovations team.”

In addition to the unparalleled patented surge elimination technology, this combined solution will allow integrators to securely manage remote access, perform diagnostics and monitor their clients’ systems with an intuitive user interface. This industry leading capability reduces the threat of unauthorized access to clients’ networks while giving integrators a single point and click dashboard to monitor installations real-time, manage and troubleshoot common system issues.

The solution will also provide a floor plan view for identifying and discovering any IP enabled device on the network, giving the integrator a visually engaging interface for easy management of all client systems. Point and click navigation allows users to quickly troubleshoot problems, monitor energy usage data and operational status, as well as send user defined notifications. This integrated solution takes remote systems management to a whole new level and enables integrators to troubleshoot problems with any product on the network, instantaneously.

Beyond identifying a problem area, integrators will also be able to see specifically what the problem is, whether it’s faulty wiring, an installation error, or a bad connection, all without having to roll a truck to the site. Once an issue has been diagnosed, this platform will allow most issues to be diagnosed from the convenience of the integrator’s own store and reducing onsite service calls, lowering costs and improving customer satisfaction. Conversely, should technicians need to go onsite, the issue will be pre-identified so they can bring the appropriate equipment — the first time out. Perfect for managing multiple commercial properties, the new SurgeX solution will offer integrators an aerial view of their full territory, providing a snapshot of each customers system. In one quick look, an integrator will be able to survey all of their properties and immediately see if there is an issue anywhere.

Middle Atlantic Introduces HRF Series Half Rack Systems

HRF Series Half Rack Frame in Lectern

Fairfield, NJ––Middle Atlantic Products is introducing the new HRF Series Half Rack family of products that will also serve to help develop an ECIA standard for the half-width rack format.

The new HRF Series half racks–which incorporate the dimensions of the proposed standard–feature a low profile design and compact dimensions. An offset cable tie area keeps their overall width to a slim 10 5/8”, which makes them an important off-the-shelf solution for maximizing the amount of usable rack space in confined areas. These dimensions also allow the HRF Series to be used with half rack equipment from a variety of manufacturers.

The HRF Series half racks also feature a strong welded frame that enables equipment to be pre-loaded and transported to the installation site. Initial models are available in 8 and 12 space useable racking height configurations with available mounting shelves that include a pattern of holes and slots that accommodate any device-mounting pattern. The line of complementary accessories for the Half Rack Series also includes a high-static pressure blower to exhaust heat, as well as blank and vented panels to complete the installation.

According to Mark Tracy, Director of Product Management, “There was a real need for a smaller, space-saving solution when rackmounting a variety of half-width components in lecterns, credenzas, and in-wall. Thanks to the feedback from our installer and consultant partners, as well as the participation of several manufacturers, this system accommodates the vast majority of smaller components currently available and provides installers with a useful new choice for mounting electronics.”
