The New Linear VMC1 Video Security Intercom System Safeguards What Matters Most

With live video, whole-home intercom, trigger mechanisms and remote monitoring, homeowners now have a single system for centralized security at home or away.

Carlsbad, CA – June 2012 – Linear LLC, the leader in residential and commercial access control, emergency response and security solutions, announces the new Linear® VMC1 Video Security Intercom System, a centralized security solution that delivers live video, audio, whole-home intercom, door releases, alarm triggers, and remote monitoring features in one highly-capable and flexible system.

The VMC1 Master Station is the central hub of the system and has a 5.6″ color video screen that can monitor any door equipped with a camera. Traditional security systems with multiple camera stations can be difficult to monitor since the homeowner isn’t always available or in front of a screen when someone rings the doorbell. With integrated live video support, the VMC1 System provides access to up to three color video cameras or video door stations, allowing users to view activities inside and out from the master station, or with optional accessories, from a TV display, or select portable devices. When not at home, the VMC1 System can also deliver a live video signal or email a snapshot picture of the front door visitor to a smart phone or computer via the internet for quick identification.

In addition, from the VMC1 Master Station, music can be shared with any room station, either from the AM/FM tuner or from auxiliary devices such as MP3 players or smart phones. While all room stations allow room-to-room or whole-home communication, the Master Station video screen allows users to speak with and see visitors at monitored doors. The system can support up to three remote electronic door release mechanisms to unlock a door or gate and has two control output switches to turn on lights, trigger an alert on an alarm panel or even activate thermostat controls. By combining visual monitoring with the ability to enact a security response in the home, the VMC1 is a serious deterrent and one of the most sophisticated video security intercom systems available.

With all the security and control functionality, one might overlook the whole-home intercom functionality of the Linear VMC1. Seeking to address a range of communication needs, the intercom enables users to speak to a single room, a group of rooms or the whole house (up to 20 rooms). Whether you’re telling the kids to get ready for bed, calling houseguests for dinner or using the system to make a company-wide announcement in a small office, the VMC1 initiates hands-free conversations to any room station. One or more rooms can also be monitored or kept private, depending on preferences.

The new VMC1 Video Security Intercom System comes in handsome white, black or bronze finishes to complement any décor.

Waldorf Astoria Chooses IMT & Meraki for High-performance Wi-Fi

Roosevelt New Orleans Upgrades as Premiere Hilton Business Showcase

Management at one of Hilton Hotels’ most prestigious properties, The Roosevelt Waldorf Astoria in New Orleans, was having a Wi-Fi crisis.  The proliferation of mobile devices was overtaxing traditional wireless networking and the The Roosevelt was feeling the pinch.

Superior Wi-Fi at top hotels is no longer an option when it comes to high level conferences and company meetings.  Management at the Waldorf-Astoria called on Integrated Media Technologies, Inc. (IMT) to find a solution to the density of mobile devices that was overburdening their Wi-Fi spaces.

“We thought we had the latest and greatest system, but apparently we were wrong,”  explained Fred Sidhva, a top Hilton manager.  “When our clientele is paying good money for their corporate gatherings, we have to give them a totally reliable Wi-Fi experience.  We needed a new approach, so we contacted IMT.”

Throughout this century and the last, The Roosevelt has strived to provide world leaders, business executives and entertainment icons with an unrivaled meetings and events service. Twenty-three separate and unique meeting rooms and 3 grand ballrooms comprise the hotel’s 5574m_/60 000 sq. ft. of event space offering a wealth of venue options.

“This project was a challenge with a tight deadline,” remarked Garth Gilmour, IMT’s VP Professional Services. “When the Waldorf contacted us, they expressed concern about the supposedly solid Wi-Fi system they had installed.  IMT had already gone through the Hilton standardization process, so we visited the New Orleans location, created a new design for them and were given the green light to proceed.”

Gilmour and the IMT team chose to develop the solution with the new Meraki MR14 dual-radio 802.11n access point series.  “Meraki is leading the pack today because they have realtime tools that are built in,” continued Gilmour.  “We’ve enhanced and integrated those tools through third party interfaces, allowing us to do  a fast and dynamic analysis of the hotel environment.  Just a year ago, that would have required a $25,000 analyzer and a team of technicians working for weeks.”

“We just didn’t have the luxury of time and another giant budget to fix this,” added Fred Sidhva.  “We gave IMT a very small window to work in — just two nights when the conference rooms were vacant between midnight and 3 AM.  We needed a product that could be deployed very effectively, very efficiently, and very quickly.  IMT hit the ground running and got the job done right, the first time.”

An effective wireless deployment requires universal coverage throughout the hotel meeting spaces.  An efficient deployment is like a military rescue: get in and get out.  Gilmour concluded,”We’ve found that with Meraki, the installation time is cut by 40%.  We have to guarantee that everything is working perfectly, but we also have to thoroughly train the hotel IT staff so that they have got everything covered when we leave.”

Barix Expands Annuncicom Product Range

New low-cost, reliable VoIP and IP Audio devices optimize features and functionality for universal applications

ZURICH, SWITZERLAND, June 7, 2012Barix has successfully marketed its two-way Annuncicom IP audio and SIP/VoIP devices around the world, bringing bidirectional audio streaming and control solutions to various markets within the commercial, entertainment, private sector and residential worlds.

Barix now builds on that success with the introduction of two new Annuncicom devices at InfoComm 2012 (June 13-15, Las Vegas Convention Center, Booth C11722) that are priced to compete in large-volume projects and applications.

The new Annuncicom 50 is built specifically for OEM applications. Barix is now shipping to OEM partners, including a key player in the education and classroom automation market. The device delivers Barix’s trademark rock-solid reliability, open standards design and multi-format audio capability at a very low cost for OEM customers.

Furthermore, Barix breaks new ground with the Annuncicom 60, a universal, programmable and ultra-compact device that offers the industry’s lowest cost today for reliable IP encoding and decoding. The small form factor is roughly 40 percent the size of existing Annuncicom devices, which are already renowned for offering a compact footprint to systems integrators and end users.

In simple terms, the Annuncicom 60 is an ideal single-zone paging interface device that can decode VoIP codecs as well as MP3, AACplus and PCM audio. Its inclusion of a built-in speaker amplifier, balanced line output and microphone interfaces, serial and contact closure control interfaces, and Power over Ethernet (PoE) support is unique to the market — delivering universal functionality at a competitive price.

“The Annuncicom 60 brings full-fledged functionality for low-cost paging and intercom while providing the high audio quality and format flexibility required for background music systems,” said Johannes G. Rietschel, CEO and founder of Barix AG. “With advanced capabilities like built-in, efficient amplification and PoE support to simplify installation, the Annuncicom 60 is ideally positioned to support the continuously growing number of IP Audio applications.”

The Annuncicom 60 enables striking cost and technical advantages for applications suited for many markets:
• Reduces cost of entry for Barix IP intercom applications by at least 25 percent
• Reduces high quality microphone encoder costs by at least 25 percent, whether for technical or security-related audio surveillance; or classroom lecture audio capture
• VoIP and MP3/AACplus audio decoding capabilities enable merging of paging and background music applications
• Lowest cost balanced output audio decoder solution for “mono” output applications (paging gateways, AM radio stations, etc.)

The Annuncicom 60 is also the lowest priced IP audio product from Barix to feature a symmetric output, making it suitable for in-store audio and general audio distribution applications requiring a 600-ohm balanced output. The 5W amplifier, when combined with an efficient 8-Ohm speaker, provides enough power for a typical room, hallway, lobby or classroom — making it ideal for single room paging zones and audio “help points” in retail stores and visitor attractions, for example.

Tightrope Media Systems Amplifies the Carousel Digital Signage Experience

New dynamic bulletin and reporting features, integration with Zeplay instant replay solution boost operational and entertainment options

ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA, May 30, 2012 – The digital signage universe continues to mature in the public eye, giving businesses, universities and other verticals an increasingly recognized visual platform to engage customers and enliven public spaces.

Tightrope Media Systems comes to InfoComm 2012 (June 13-15, Las Vegas Convention Center, Booth N2257) with new developments to its Carousel digital signage system that deliver a richer experience for viewers, and new creative and reporting capabilities for end users. The advances integrate smoothly into the existing Carousel system, retaining its installation- and user-friendly characteristics for systems integrators.

Dynamic Bulletins
The web-centric Carousel solution is renowned for location-based data, delivering weather and other relevant information to local viewers. At InfoComm 2012, Tightrope extends local weather options, supporting multi-day forecast creation (up to seven days) and text-based crawls from WeatherBug. Carousel operators can build forecasts with temperature information and graphics to visualize the sun, clouds, rain and other climate conditions.

Increased multi-lingual support is a significant new Carousel development, with right-to-left text for Arabic, Hebrew and Farsi languages; and Asian-language word-wrapping for Japanese, Korean and simplified/traditional Chinese. Carousel also now displays international date formats by location, supporting EDS and date/time display among others.

Tightrope also addresses social media and digital signage integration at InfoComm 2012 through live Twitter feed support, allowing operators to publish tweets alongside RSS and other data-based feeds in any screen zone.

Built-in location-based services ensure that the correct forecasts, languages and social media feeds are delivered to the right screens across larger networks.

Stadium Excitement
Tightrope will also demonstrate Carousel integration with its ZEPLAY Instant Replay Server for stadium environments. Operators using the integrated solution can trigger instant replays of touchdowns, home runs and other thrilling moment from an iPad interface for immediate translation to Carousel-driven displays.

Digital signage operators in the stadium following the game action can press an icon to launch the iPad application. The application triggers an XML data string, which translates replays from the main stadium display, such as a Jumbotron, to one or more digital signage displays. This is especially ideal for fans that missed the live action, allowing them to view replays of big moments on menu boards at the concession stands, for example.

Emergency Notification
Digital signage gives corporate offices, school campuses and other locations a dynamic informational and entertainment tool — and can bring additional value when used for security and public safety.

Carousel now supports the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) that is being implemented across campuses and organizations nationwide. CAP allows a large university, corporate or other campus to implement simultaneous emergency messaging across a variety of platforms — using the same protocol that triggers alerts via SMS/text, AM radio, cable television EAS and outdoor warning devices for Carousel digital signage systems.

Reporting and Data Management
There is an undeniable creative element to working with digital signage that injects a sense of excitement into the content that ultimately reaches the consumer. However, someone still needs to manage the data and understand how the results affect business and operations.

At InfoComm, Tightrope adds a report publishing module to Carousel to export all bulletin-related metadata. This allows users to intelligently filter information related to status, schedules and impression data — a key benefit for sponsors on advertising-supported networks. Users export CSV reports of each bulletin, and flexibly adjust bulletin filters as needed to include only the information required at that time. Users can select from a list of all active and current bulletins across each screen zone.

About Tightrope Media Systems
Founded in 1997, Tightrope Media Systems is the pioneer of web-centric digital signage and broadcast automation systems. It provides station automation, video servers, internet video on demand, live streaming, the Carousel Digital Signage system, and ZEPLAY, a multi-channel instant replay machine for stadiums, arenas and Outside Broadcast vehicles. Technomad Expands Integrator and End User Options for PowerChiton Amplifiers

Localized control and connections, streaming audio support offer progressive solutions to enhance outdoor audio installations

BOSTON, May 15, 2012Technomad introduces several new product accessories at InfoComm 2012 to complement its advanced audio solutions range. The innovative tools give systems integrators and end users flexible new options to simplify Technomad installations in stadiums, on college campuses and across other indoor/outdoor facilities.

At InfoComm (June 13-15, Las Vegas Convention Center, Booth C12033), Technomad introduces a weatherproof breakout box and Apple AirPort Express audio streaming compatibility for its range of PowerChiton amplifier modules. The company will also show a new stainless steel mounting solution for its high-power weatherproof loudspeaker models.

“Technomad is always seeking ways to increase the range of applications for our products, and make life easier for systems integrators by innovating solutions that address installation challenges in the field,” said Rodger von Kries, vice president, Technomad.

PowerChiton Breakout Box
The PowerChiton range of passively-cooled, IP66-rated weatherproof amplifier modules — available in four power levels up to 1600 watts — have grown increasingly popular in outdoor audio projects where installers wish to co-locate amplification with loudspeakers, from athletic field complexes to university campus mass notification systems. The compact and low profile of PowerChiton amplifier modules — along with the rugged, weatherproof design — enables sound contractors to easily install the modules on light poles and other surfaces at any height.

Technomad now introduces a specialized PowerChiton breakout box that enables local audio control at user-friendly locations in the same NEMA-style protective enclosure. Contractors can install the breakout box at eye level, for example, allowing end users to adjust volume and connect a handheld microphone or an iPod on the fly.

The PowerChiton breakout box, which begins shipping July 1, includes mic and line level inputs, a four-channel mixer, an accessory cord and mounting hardware. The breakout box also enables remote installations, such as athletic fields without a press box or other protected location, to benefit from permanently-installed, PowerChiton-based PA systems. A coach or announcer can walk up to the breakout box, open it and be speaking through the PA or playing music within seconds.

“Installers typically only open PowerChiton amplifiers to hard-wire connections and set levels, and then screw the box shut for dependable, permanent installations,” said von Kries. “The PowerChiton breakout box is designed for ongoing user adjustments, with easy and direct access to controls and the capacity to store an audio player and microphone. It also provides a local audio source to make announcements and connect an iPod or other playout device.”

Technomad also now supports AirPlay capability from PowerChiton for Apple AirPort Express users. This allows commercial and residential customers to wirelessly stream iTunes audio files and playlists to an AirPort Express unit within a PowerChiton amplifier or breakout box. Users require only the hardware and a basic network or Wi-Fi connection to wirelessly stream audio from a computer or playout device to the PowerChiton — reducing costs and infrastructure associated with traditional wiring and cabling.

New Wall Mount Solution
Technomad is now shipping a new stainless steel wall mount for its AS Series of weatherproof, advanced audio loudspeakers. The AS Series consists of the largest and most powerful Technomad loudspeakers, including the Noho and all Berlin models (broad and narrow-dispersion).

Unlike older styles, the new Technomad wall mount accessory allows installers to position any AS Series loudspeaker vertically or horizontally. The stainless steel design prevents weather-related erosion over time, and pole-mount adaption simplifies lighting and telephone pole installations.

Technomad will also show a range of existing advanced audio solutions, including its ultra-lightweight DragonFly remote audio system; and its Schedulon audio playback and recording system.

ABOUT TECHNOMAD
Technomad LLC, founded in 1995, designs and manufactures loudspeaker systems for the professional audio and security/military technology industries. The company invented the first reliable full-range weatherproof loudspeaker and now offers nine models ranging in power from 60-watt loudspeakers to 1250-watt subwoofers — most available in Turnkey PA System packages featuring amplifiers, mixers and other signal processing equipment in pre-wired racks. The company also manufactures a variety of audio infrastructure and communications equipment including playback and recording systems, weatherproof power amplifiers and turnkey remote audio systems. Contact Technomad at 617-275-8898 or visit www.technomad.com for more information.

LYNX Technik to Debut Four yellobrik® 4-Channel CWDM Multiplexers / Demultiplexers at NAB 2012

LYNX Technik AG, provider of modular interfaces is launching four new passive CWDM multiplexers / demultiplexers at NAB 2012 booth N4433. The four new bricks expand the ever-growing yellobrik line of compact signal processor solutions.

The new CWDM multiplexers / demultiplexers are devices that can accept, combine, transmit and receive up to four fiber optic signals over a single link. Therefore, several signals can share a single fiber optic link. A single unit can perform multiplexer as well as demultiplexer functions.

The four models include the OCM 1841, OCM 1842, OCM 1843 and OCM 1844. These four multiplexers support various Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM) wavelengths from 1270 nm to 1610 nm. Each model has four channels that are each assigned to a different wavelength.

These new yellobriks use passive optical technology to multiplex or demultiplex a number of optical carrier signals onto a single optical fiber by using different wavelengths of laser light. This technique also facilitates bidirectional communications over a single strand of fiber.

All four yellobriks feature an optical UPG port which facilitates cascading the four modules together for a total of up to 16 channels. The modules can be used standalone or integrated into a 19” rack using a rack tray option, which is ideal for system installations.

These new 4-channel CWDM multiplexers complement the two 9-channel multiplexers that are already available in the yellobrik range.

“We always aim to offer our customers practical choices and options when it comes to our technology,” comments Winfried Deckelmann CEO of LYNX Technik. “Our current 9-channel multiplexer / demultiplexer devices may be too large for small installations therefore we are now offering a range of smaller 4-channel building blocks.”
The new yellobrik CWDM Multiplexers / DeMultiplexers will be on display for the first time at NAB 2012 booth N4433. They are available for ordering now and will ship at the end of April 2012.
