Middle Atlantic and Extron Electronics Initiate New Half Rack Standard for AV Integration

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 2, 2012 Middle Atlantic Products, in conjunction with Extron Electronics, is initiating and supporting the establishment of a new standard for half-width rack systems for AV integration.

Working in cooperation with the Electronic Components Industry Association (ECIA), Extron and Middle Atlantic are seeking to establish and maintain a specific ECIA standard for what has typically been offered as a custom rack offering until now. To further strengthen the quality and application of the standard, the two companies are inviting manufacturers of compact-format devices to join a communication and working group for this effort.

Both manufacturers have recently developed product families – the Extron Half Rack Shelf System and Middle Atlantic’s new HR Series Half Racks – which, respectively, fit within and incorporate the proposed 10 5/8” overall width defined in the proposed new standard.

Commenting on the introduction and standard effort, Middle Atlantic Director of Marketing Kevin Handerson stated, “We are pleased to be working with device manufacturing partners to seize the initiative for establishing an ECIA standard for AV half rack systems. Having a workable, clear standard will greatly facilitate the installation of half rack products in useful applications.”

Dave Pincek, Vice President of Product Development for Extron Electronics, stated “Extron has long advocated the use of standard, rack-mount enclosure dimensions as a means of improving AV system designs and integration. With this proposed new standard for a compact mounting system, key AV equipment can now be more easily integrated into lecterns, columns, table legs, and similar spaces without sacrificing system functionality, thermal management, or room aesthetics.”

Device manufacturers that would like to participate in the working group should contact Mark Tracy, Director of Product and Business Development at Middle Atlantic Products, using the email address Standards@MiddleAtlantic.com.

For more information on the Extron Half Rack Shelf System, please visit: www.extron.com/halfracksystem. For more information on the Middle Atlantic HR Series Half Rack click to www.MiddleAtlantic.com.

Barix Announces Wi-Fi Voice Paging App for iOS Devices

New app gives iPhone, iPad users a true IP audio paging solution — without the complexity of IP

ZURICH, SWITZERLAND, January 31, 2012Barix AG, a pioneer in IP audio, control and monitoring, brings voice paging to the iPhone and iPad via the Barix Wi-Fi Paging App — the first open-standards IP and multicast voice announcer application for mobile iOS devices.

The Barix Wi-Fi Paging App, now available in the iTunes App Store, enables zoned voice paging from iOS devices on commercial, public and residential properties. Barix’s open-standards approach turns nearly any VoIP or IP Audio receiving device into a simple IP paging/announcement system. Besides the full range of Barix IP Audio devices, many IP phones are supported, as well as third-party IP Paging gateways and speakers. A one-time configuration process ensures that users can quickly set up a paging solution for immediate and ongoing use without hassle.

“Barix is bringing more than ten years of knowledge and leadership in VoIP and IP audio devices to the smartphone universe,” said Johannes G. Rietschel, CEO and founder of Barix. “The Barix Paging App draws from our professional IP Audio and paging knowhow to make Wi-Fi paging available for millions of smartphone owners across commercial, residential, medical and professional markets.”

Ease of use is central to the Barix Paging App. Upon download, users add existing paging receivers such as IP phones, IP speakers or VoIP paging gateways in the setup part of the application. Multicast addresses can be used to set up zones with multiple receiving devices. Configurations are stored within the app or an optional location device, ensuring a one-time setup process per site. For existing Barix customers, the configuration process can automatically discover Barix IP Audio devices.

Users can assign photos to each device or zone to create clear visuals for the paging targets. Once setup is complete, users can make announcements to one, many or all configured targets by simply touching the appropriate zone icons and initiating audio with the “push-to-talk” soft-button. Real-world applications include calling the kids for dinner, making general announcements to all classrooms in a K-12 school, paging doctors in a hospital, and announcing new security measures across a large corporate campus.

All Barix VoIP-enabled IP Audio products are compatible with the Wi-Fi Paging App, including:
• Single- and multi-zone VoIP Paging Gateways (Exstreamer and Annuncicom two-way audio product families)
• The “IP Speaker without the speaker” (Exstreamer P5)
• The ruggedized Annuncicom 155 for use in harsh environments
• The Exstreamer 205, which provides up to 50W output power for high-quality music distribution applications — and now Wi-Fi Paging
• Affordable Power over Ethernet (PoE) master paging stations (Annuncicom PS1 and PS16)

More information can be found at http://www.wifi-paging.com or the Barix homepage.

PESA Introduces World’s First HDcctv-Compliant Routing Switcher

HDcctv 16X16 Routing Switcher

Compact 1RU HDcctv 16X16 Routing Switcher

Huntsville, Alabama – December 27, 2011 – PESA® today unveiled the new 16X16 PESA HDcctv Routing Switcher, the world’s first HDcctv routing switcher with full compliance to the HDcctv Alliance™ high-definition video interface standard for security and surveillance systems. With just a single RG-59 coax cable for each port, users can connect up to 16 HDcctv-compliant video cameras to the PESA HDcctv Routing Switcher and output up to 16 individual coax connections for HDcctv DVR or display devices. Designed specifically for high-definition video over coax, PESA’s new 16X16 HDcctv Routing Switcher features a compact 1RU enclosure, local or remote network control options and a redundant power supply and control card option.

“The PESA HDcctv Routing Switcher is the ultimate interface where multiple HDcctv cameras and DVR’s need to be shared or switched in the best quality format available,” said Dan Holland, PESA’s Vice President of Product Marketing. “HDcctv is based on proven uncompressed high definition video technology so there is no need to compromise quality or worry about dropped packets, latency, or bandwidth allocation issues normally found with IP based technology.”

With a compact frame design, the PESA HDcctv Routing Switcher uses full uncompressed video technology to distribute brilliant high resolution images from devices as far away as 100m over traditional RG-59 coax cable. With the 1.5Gbps enabled transport for each port, video resolutions for 720p and 1080p are evenly distributed without compression. Unlike IP-based switches and hubs using distributed 10Gbps backbone, PESA’s HDcctv Routing Switcher allocates a dedicated 1.5Gbps for each device connected to the router. In aggregate comparison to IP solutions, PESA’s 16X16 HDcctv compliant routing system provides over 24Gbps of non-blocking, non-compressed video switching.

Based on the HDcctv Alliance standard, all inputs are auto-equalized and outputs reclocked to transmit 720p25/30, 720p50/60, or 1080p25/30 video resolutions distances up to 100m (300ft). Two independent reference inputs allow easy selection of gen-lock from black burst or a tri-level sync source. The frame assembly features a front load / hot swappable matrix card and includes space for an optional redundant power supply and control module. Each HDcctv Routing Switcher provides control interfaces for PESA’s Ethernet control system or can be configured to support many third-party control systems. Additionally, the PESA HDcctv Routing Switcher easily supports an optional local pushbutton control panel, up to 80 remote control panels, or control via a unique PESA soft-panel – a software emulated version of control panels.

With almost four decades of proven technology development in high-quality broadcast switching products, PESA continues to be an innovative provider of future-proof video distribution product solutions. The PESA 16X16 HDcctv Routing Switcher is the world’s first fully compliant HDcctv Matrix Switch and PESA’s roadmap includes several other HDcctv matrix and signal processing devices to be introduced in 2012.

As customers analyze ever larger amounts of video data and need to derive more value and ROI from their investment in video security and surveillance equipment, the HDcctv standard continues to deliver cost-effective, full uncompressed video solutions for users looking to upgrade legacy CCTV systems or design new greenfield megapixel IP video systems.

”The enormous market opportunity for uncompressed HD surveillance video over coax is increasingly widely recognized in the security industry,” observed Todd Rockoff, executive director of HDcctv Alliance. “Realization of that market opportunity requires multi-vendor/brand compatibility, which is ensured by compliance with the HDcctv standard. By delivering the world’s first HDcctv-compliant matrix switch, PESA has contributed a critical component for enterprise-class HDcctv-based surveillance systems.”

About HDcctv Alliance
HDcctv Alliance® is the non-profit industry association that develops and promulgates the global specification for high-definition closed-circuit television (HDcctv). The V1.0 HDcctv specification is derived from broadcast industry standards for 100% digital serial transmission of uncompressed video over coaxial cable. However, HDcctv is planned to also transmit video over various media (including optical fiber and Cat5), and the HDcctv standard optimizes the interface to meet the needs of the surveillance market. The Alliance promotes industry adoption of HDcctv technology, and it provides education both to the surveillance equipment industry and to equipment buyers. HDcctv-compliant products bear the distinctive HDcctv logo that guarantees transmission distance and interoperability with other HDcctv-compliant products. The Alliance also offers an HDcctv Certificate for video surveillance system designers, installers, and dealers through an education program. Barix to Introduce Compact Master Paging Station at ISE

Bi-directional audio path also supports intercom communications

ZURICH, SWITZERLAND, December 6, 2011Barix AG unveils its Annuncicom PS1 Paging Station at the ISE show in Amsterdam early next year (January 31-February 2, RAI Center, Booth 2E70). The compact, elegant device gives commercial businesses, office buildings, educational institutions, medical facilities and others a simple, fully-integrated hardware solution for paging and intercom over IP.

The PS1 features two backlit push-to-talk buttons, volume control and a built-in speaker and microphone, giving security guards, receptionists and other operators a simple way to make announcements to an entire facility. The device’s IP addressability enables a simple connection to the network, allowing systems integrators and end users to take advantage of existing infrastructure, reducing costs and equipment requirements. Power over Ethernet (PoE) capability further simplifies installation, requiring only a single cable to the device.

The PS1 can also merge with background music systems — ideal for retailers, restaurants, hotels, clubs and other entertainment venues that wish to break into a stream with announcements. Bi-directional capability enables intercom for facility-wide, two-way communications — taking the PS1 beyond a basic paging device for ski areas, university campuses and other large areas that require talkback capability.

Barix introduced its first master paging station, the Annuncicom PS16, in 2009 to support complex, multi-zone paging and intercom applications. The PS1 addresses market needs for a simple and reliable, yet elegant and affordable solution.

“Many Barix customers have reported the need for a simple, compact one-to-two button desktop paging station for universal use,” said Johannes G. Rietschel, CEO and Founder of Barix. “Hospital and school receptionists, for example, can page doctors and teachers or make general announcements without a learning curve. Ease of use and reliability were of paramount importance in its design.”

The compact PS1 design accommodates wall-mount and desktop installations, with minimal real estate requirements. This makes the PS1 ideal for central offices and control rooms, as well as secondary rooms and remote points. A belt clip also enables mobility for those that need IP intercom on the move.

Existing Barix customers can easily integrate the PS1 with other Barix devices on a network, including Instreamer IP encoders, Exstreamer IP decoders and Annuncicom two-way IP devices — enabling a complete, customized Barix IP audio and control solution that meet the requirements of the facility.

Prysm’s Digital Mannequin Selected to Help Create Immersive Runway Experience at Honeywell Aerospace’s NBAA Booth

Five Life-Size Digital Mannequins Bring Honeywell Aerospace’s Customers and Technology to Life at the 2011 National Business Aviation Association Annual Meeting & Conference

San Jose, CA- October 27- Digital display innovator, Prysm, announced earlier this month that the company’s Digital Mannequin displays were selected to enhance the Honeywell Aerospace in-booth experience during the 2011 National Business Aviation Association Annual Meeting & Conference that took place in Las Vegas, NV on October 10-12. Powered by Prysm’s revolutionary Laser Phosphor Display (LPD) technology, five Digital Mannequins standing seven-feet tall brought Honeywell Aerospace’s customers and technology to life with brilliant, high-definition video displays during the business aviation industry’s largest tradeshow.

“We are thrilled to have partnered with Honeywell Aerospace and its agency The Brand Experience for such an innovative project,” said Prysm’s co-founder and CEO Amit Jain. “This is a true testament to the quality and capabilities of Prysm’s display solution.”

During the show, Prysm’s Digital Mannequins were used as valuable sales tools bringing various Honeywell Aerospace products to life with stunning imagery and product videos. Each Digital Mannequin was used as a stand-alone presentation tool; designed with a custom touchpad interface controlled by the sales reps, the display on any tower could be easily changed to exhibit one of sixteen Honeywell Aerospace product presentations. As the sales reps met with attendees and told the story of the various Honeywell Aerospace products, the Digital Mannequins helped illustrate the product stories with short video presentations that include stats, pictures and design details.

“Using five of Prysm’s Digital Mannequins, we were able to create an immersive video experience where the audience actually felt like they are standing on the runway,” said Dale Tesmond, CEO of The Brand Experience, who provided both creative direction and executive production for the experience. “Working with teams from Prysm, 3Stage Design for the technology setup and design, and Sandlot Pictures for the display content, we’ve created an un-paralleled display that the Honeywell team is thrilled with.”

Additionally, the Digital Mannequin’s attracted and engaged audiences to the Honeywell Aerospace booth. At various times during the conference all five displays were synced together and streamed short videos depicting the everyday life of Honeywell Aerospace customers: from business jet pilots, to maintenance teams and FAA controllers.

Prysm’s LPD solutions break away from traditional display technologies by offering freeform flexibility, long-lasting performance, life-like, life-size and HD imagery that captivates audiences in any setting. Built on solid-state lasers that deliver brilliant image quality and the fastest video content, Prysm’s displays provide striking video viewable from 178-degrees. Running off of a standard 110V outlet and using up to 75% less power than traditional backlit or projection technology-based products, Prysm’s displays create high impact brand experiences without the need for special power or cooling infrastructure.
