IC Realtime Embraces UL’s 2802 Performance Testing Standard for Camera Image Quality

In the works for more than two years — and released last September — the new standard defines a method to assess video image quality through a series of performance based tests that are conducted on production digital cameras.

Cameras are rated (on a scale of 0 thru 100) on the following parameters: image resolution; distortion; relative illumination; dynamic range; maximum frame rate; gray level; sensitivity; bad pixel count and veiling glare.

”A standard for testing camera performance is crucial in keeping everyone’s claims honest,” says

JVC Unveils New Simulation Projector, Alternate Light Source at I/ITSEC 2013

WAYNE, NJ – JVC Professional Products Company, a division of JVC Americas Corp., will introduce its new DLA-2400ZG projector with e-shift technology and demonstrate an alternate light source for projectors at I/ITSEC 2013 (Booth 1419), which runs Dec. 2-5 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.

The DLA-VS2400ZG delivers a 5.1 megapixel equivalent image via JVC’s proprietary e-shift technology, along with 18,000:1 native contrast ratio and a minimum of 900 ANSI lumens. It offers two HDMI inputs, as well as RS-232C and LAN connectivity for remote access and control, and its unique 120 Hz input interface means reduced image generator (IG) hardware requirements.

Christie Awarded Aero Simulation Contract to Deliver High Brightness, High Resolution Christie Matrix Simulation Projection Systems to U.S. Marine Corps’ AH-1W Weapons Systems Trainer

Christie® today announced that Aero Simulation Inc. (ASI) awarded Christie the contract to supply the U.S. Marine Corps with projection systems consisting of 12 Christie Matrix StIM™ WQ 1-chip DLP® solid state LED projectors for AH-1W Weapons Systems Trainer (WST) Device 2F136A upgrades. Six display system projectors will be installed at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., and six at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS), New River, N.C. in 2015.

The U.S. Marine Corps’ project includes the modification and technical refresh of two existing AH-1W WST systems with the replacement of visual display projectors, image generators and visual databases. With the goal of upgrading the system displays and supportability, while reducing lifecycle costs, the modified trainers will help teach pilot and co-pilot cockpit familiarization, engine operation, tactical navigation, and emergency procedures. The trainer supports standalone tactical training, as well as integrated virtual training with other devices. These features let the students practice essential aircraft operations and tactics skills in an environment closely resembling real world scenarios.

The 2F136A WST device comprises several functional systems producing a simulated environment and emulating real world scenarios for AH-1W Super Cobra helicopter aircrews with each trainer consisting of two visual display domes. The training device’s computer systems control two separate training platforms, one housing a Pilot position and the other a Co-pilot/Gunner position. The system provides Pilot and Co-Pilot/Gunner transition weapon systems, integrated crew, and flight proficiency training.

FOR-A to Exhibit at Upcoming Government Video Expo

Cypress, CA – FOR-A will demo several products at next month’s Government Video Expo, which takes place December 3-5 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. The company will exhibit in booth #807 and show switcher, multi-viewer, video stabilizer and video clip server
technology.

“Government Video Expo is a premiere event that brings video production and broadcast equipment suppliers together with key decision makers in government technology,” said Jay Shinn, Northeast Account Manager at FOR-A. “FOR-A offers several solutions that are ideal for government applications, and the show is a good opportunity to showcase our technology specifically to this market.”

FOR-A will demonstrate its popular video production switchers, including the
HVS-XT110 HD/SD portable video switcher. The latest in the company’s popular line of HVS Series switchers, the HVS-XT110 features a compact, integrated design and comes standard with 12 HD/SD-SDI inputs and eight outputs, and enables nine outputs, including one HDMI output, to be freely assigned.

Another production switcher in FOR-A’s booth will be the compact, cost-effective HVS-390HS. The switcher comes standard with 16 HD/SD-SDI inputs, eight outputs plus an HDMI output. With the addition of optional input/output boards, the system expands to 24 inputs and 13 outputs. FOR-A recently introduced new switcher features that take mix effects (M/E) technology to the next level and upgrade the AUX bus system to perform with powerful M/E functionality.

FOR-A will also have the IVS-710HS HD/SD video stabilizer on hand. The high-performance, compact video processing solution corrects unwanted camera movement and vibrations while maintaining camera pan and tilt movement.

Additionally, FOR-A will show its MV-1620HS HD/SD high resolution multi-viewer. The cost-effective unit features PC-based software that enables users to easily create screen layout, embedded audio level display for up to 16 channels per input, and title display of up to 16 characters per input. The layout memory of the MV-1620HS is capable of saving up to 16 layout patterns in the main unit, which can be selected directly from the front panel.

The MBP-100SX video clip server will also be showcased at Government Video Expo. The reliable solution records and plays MXF files and can be used in a variety of applications, including ingest, playback, and even program playout using a playout system.
