Opticomm-EMCORE to demonstrate Video Wall driven by Eclipse HD at InfoComm

Alhambra, CA – Opticomm-EMCORE, a leading provider of high-definition video, audio and data transport solutions for Fiber, IP, CATx and Coax networks, will be using the InfoComm 2014 show in Las Vegas on June 18-20 as a platform to demonstrate the quality of the new Eclipse HD as it extends and switches 1080p or 1920×1200 multimedia feeds across a dedicated IP network, sent to a four-panel video wall as example of its capabilities. In addition, other high-quality products for pre- and post-production, live-feed, and Professional A/V will be on display at the booth stand, C7716.

Opticomm-EMCORE will construct a cost-efficient video/audio/data distribution system over an IP network to show design consultants, system integrators and home theater aficionados the painless switching and routing of the new Eclipse HD. This encoder/decoder system provides visually lossless transmission and processing of HDMI 1.3, 5.1 channel audio, RS-232 data and USB HID keyboard/mouse (KVM), over a dedicated Gigabit Ethernet network. A media player, Blu-ray or DVD player, laptop, camera or other HDMI source can send HD signals to the Eclipse HD encoder, which can then be sent to a Layer 2/3 Unmanaged Gigabit Ethernet Switch with IGMP 2.0 (if desired), which lastly can be received by one or more decoders to be connected to single or multiple displays. There are virtually limitless ways to configure a HD matrix by stacking IP switches.

In addition to the Eclipse HD, we will be showing the NV series as a part of the IP network exhibit, which utilizes JPEG 2000 encoding and decoding for lossless DVI, HDMI, and 3G HD-SDI distribution. Also we will also be highlighting, in our booth, the c-Linx series, Optiva and openGear fiber products. The c-Linx series are small, stand-alone box units utilizing HDBaseT technology to extend signals for extension up to 100 meters, over CATx. The Optiva and openGear fiber transmission platforms support multiple channels of signal conversion, extension, KVM- remote management, analog/digital audio, over a single fiber strand. The company will display the Optiva OTP-1DVI2A1UKM, which has been upgraded with a larger bit-rate of 6.25GB and now supports up to 4K resolution and KVM over a secure, lossless, multimode fiber up to 10 km and singlemode fiber up to 25 km.

Opticomm-EMCORE’s booth will display the newest and key products that we believe, will cater to consultants and integrators who build and design complex signal network systems and have need of high-quality signal management.

“We are excited to showcase our newest addition to the video-over-IP distribution category, Eclipse HD,” concludes Henok Tafese, Senior Director of Business Development.

Opticomm-EMCORE’s complete breadth of video-over-IP, fiber and CATx/HDBaseT products will be on display at InfoComm 2014, June 18-20, booth C7716 of the Las Vegas Convention. For more information, please visit www.opticomm.com, download the EVE/EVD-HD datasheet here, or call 626-293-3400.

New FOR-A HVS-390HS Switcher User TNDV Relied on Unit for Production of Events Surrounding ACM Awards

Cypress, CA – Video production company Tennessee Digital Video (TNDV) first used FOR-A’s HVS-390HS video switcher while producing conferences for Atlanta-based Passion City Church. Impressed with the cost efficient switcher, TNDV purchased a 2 M/E HVS-390HS of its own in December 2013. The company relied on its new switcher for events leading up to the Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards on April 6, including production of a 2-day music festival fundraiser and a red carpet show special.

On April 4-5, ACM hosted a two-day outdoor music fundraiser festival at Caesars LINQ in Las Vegas. Deemed “Party for a Cause,” the festival’s proceeds helped to fight hunger by benefitting Outnumber Hunger, and featured headliners Rascal Flatts and Keith Urban. TNDV handled video production of the festival, using the HVS-390HS to produce IMAG on three video boards, enabling the crowd to see performers up close. TNDV fed video to two different stages during the festival’s events. The production company was also on location in Las Vegas to produce a live red carpet special at the ACM Awards.

“We have a number of HD trucks and flypacks, so we own a variety of switchers,” said Nic Dugger, owner of TNDV. “The HVS-390HS stands out compared to others for the variety of useful features that it offers for such an affordable price. A lot of our productions require a second M/E for broadcast and IMAG switches, so that was a major consideration in us choosing the 2 M/E HVS-390HS. The switcher was a perfect fit for our work surrounding the ACM Awards.”

A longtime user of FOR-A color correction and video conversion products, the HVS-390HS is the first FOR-A switcher that TNDV has purchased. The company has found the unit to be well built, robust, and road worthy – all important considerations that the mobile production company looks for when selecting equipment.

“FOR-A’s HVS-390HS offers features that allow us to highly customize the unit to meet our production needs,” said Dugger. “Its expansion slots, twelve DVE channels, and option to use the larger 28-button panel greatly benefit our operations.”

Los Angeles, CA – April 7, 2014 – ICE Cable Systems today announced that its Cat5e and Cat6 cables have received HDBaseT certification. This means the products perform to specs as defined by the HDBaseT Alliance.

According to ICE Cable President Brian Rizzo, the certification serves to propel the company towards a leadership position of HDBaseT Cat 5e/6 cable solutions in the CEDIA channel. It also further cements the brand’s value proposition of delivering high-performance yet cost-effective solutions.

HDBaseT
HDBaseT is a connectivity standard for whole-home and commercial distribution of uncompressed HD multimedia content. The cornerstone of HDBaseT technology is 5Play™, a feature set that converges uncompressed full HD digital video, audio, 100BaseT Ethernet, power over cable and various control signals through a single LAN cable.

”With HDBaseT, installers are running video, audio, ethernet, control and power all on one cable, all of which requires equipment “handshakes” on each end. We want to help installers do it right the first time so they can move onto other areas of the job,” says Rizzo. “ICE Cable has spared no expense in the making of our product, from the quality and quantity of copper and compounds we use, to our tangle-free dispensers,” says Rizzo.

ICE Cable HDBaseT Products Feature Set
ICE Cable Systems’ HDBaseT-certified Cat5e and Cat6 cables are sold in bulk cartons of 1,000 feet/ 305 meters. For installation convenience the cartons incorporate REELEX II® payout technology which delivers tangle-free pulls and according to Rizzo also contributes to signal performance. Custom Media Solutions Relies on New FOR-A Switcher for High-Profile Live Event Production

Cypress, CA – Specializing in high-quality live and post production services, Custom Media Solutions has been depending on FOR-A video switchers to meet its production needs in recent years. The Georgia-based firm first purchased a FOR-A HVS-300HS switcher in 2011, bought an HVS-350HS switcher when theytransitioned to full HD, and later became a user of FOR-A’s HVS-XT110 portable switcher. The company recently selected a FOR-A HVS-390HS switcher for use with its wide-ranging video production applications, including live entertainment, conferences and corporate events.

“Some features of the HVS-300HS switcher that I really appreciate include the ability to scale on every input, a frame sync option on every input, and the DVE capabilities in every keyer,” said Marc Shroyer, owner and founder of Custom Media Solutions. “When we upgraded to HD, the obvious choice for us was to buy FOR-A’s HVS-350HS switcher. The unit was still offered in a small package, yet it came with some amazing features and flexibility. Some features that have helped us to deliver impressive results to low-budget events include its keying over AUX buses, transitioning events memory and use of a second remote control panel.”

Custom Media Solutions began using FOR-A’s HVS-390HS switcher at the end of 2013, and has been extremely pleased with their new unit’s flexibility and new features.

“What has been a big hit for us so far is the Web interface, larger control panel, additional half M/E when we use it with the HVS-300HS control panel, and the use of macros,” explained Shroyer.

One of the more challenging events produced by Custom Media Solutions with
FOR-A’s HVS-350HS switcher was for Hillsong UNITED, an Australian worship music group. Conferences highlighting their U.S. tour stops were held in New York City’s Radio City Music Hall and the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles last fall.

“The FOR-A switcher performed beautifully,” said Shroyer. “The client needed five different outputs with five different keys, all with the ability to transition, and they also needed to have all five screens change sources simultaneously by pushing one key. They wanted to turn multiple outputs with different sources to black and white with the push of a button. We could do this thanks to the mono color option built into the switcher’s keyers. The event was a complete success, and we saved our clients a lot of money by not having to use five different switchers to perform the tasks at hand. We just needed the one FOR-A switcher to get the job done right.”

Other productions that Custom Media Solutions has used FOR-A’s switchers for include: the Delta Chairman’s Club Banquet at the Fox Theater in Atlanta, Christian music artist Chris Tomlin’s tour, a conference at the University of Tennessee, Passion City Church events, DVD shoots for artists Montel Jordan and Hillsong UNITED, events at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, productions for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and North Point Community Church’s student camps.

“We’ve been continuously pleased with our FOR-A equipment and the quality it brings to our productions,” Shroyer explained. “Our switchers have helped us to provide our customers with top notch, cutting edge video productions at very competitive prices.”

New Broadcast Pix Software Upgrades Include Next Generation Chromakey, Dual-Channel Clip Server

Billerica, Massachusetts – Broadcast Pix™ will debut ClearKey, its next generation chromakey, as well as a dual-channel clip server and several other upgrades in its Version 4.0 software for Granite™ and Mica™ integrated production switchers. Available in May, the new software features will be demonstrated at the 2014 NAB Show (Booth SL6325), which runs April 7-10 in Las Vegas, Nev. The company also announced Version 3.0 software for its Flint™ end-to-end integrated production switchers, with most of the same upgrades.

Part of Broadcast Pix’s Fluent™ workflow software, ClearKey features precise, highly adjustable keying that can handle challenging visuals, such as glass or fast-moving or out of focus objects. Robust color correction removes the most stubborn spill from chromakeyed objects, which is important for virtual set use where color contamination is almost unavoidable. A key crop function can be used to confine the keying effect to certain areas of the screen.

ClearKey also creates more realistic shadow and lighting effects. Shine a spotlight on the background, for example, and it will shine on the virtual set as well. If a subject casts a shadow on the green or blue background, ClearKey can make the shadow appear on the virtual set, if desired. A simple eye dropper tool simplifies chromakey color selection, and intuitive controls make it easy to adjust lighting, shadow and spill correction effects.

The V4 upgrade includes a dual-channel clip server for Granite and Mica, which handles playback of SD and HD footage in a variety of file formats. (Flint already includes a dual-channel clip server.) Both upgrades add new device controls for Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Studio and Studio Pro video recorders, as well as all AJA Ki Pro recorders, over a TCP/IP connection. Clips can be recorded and played back from the PixPad, and all controls can programmed into a macro for simplified control. The new upgrades also include device control for Lumens VC-G50 and VC-G30 HD PTZ cameras. Plus, Fluent-View, Broadcast Pix’s customizable multi-view, includes a new snap-to-grid feature to make it easier to build new screen layouts.

“When Broadcast Pix has a major software release, you know we’ve listened to our customers and added some pretty significant improvements,” said Steve Ellis, general manager, Broadcast Pix. “ClearKey in particular represents a major step forward that will improve productions for customers who rely on virtual sets. It is highly adjustable but easy to operate – and it delivers outstanding results.”

Flint V3 and Granite/Mica V4 are free upgrades for all respective systems under warranty and will be available in May.

NAB 2014: FOR-A to Show New Version of FT-ONE 4K Variable Frame Rate Camera, Debut 4K Extraction System

Cypress, CA – At the upcoming NAB Show in Las Vegas, FOR-A will showcase a new version of its FT-ONE 4K super slow motion camera. The new version of the FT-ONE offers fiber I/O connections built directly into the unit for ease of use when shooting from the field. The company’s new ZE-ONE 4K extraction system will also be a highlight of the company’s booth (C5117), making its first NAB appearance.

“FOR-A is excited to showcase this new version of the FT-ONE camera and debut our ZE-ONE 4K extraction system at NAB,” said Hiro Tanoue, President, FOR-ACorporation of America. “We’re now offering the FT-ONE with fiber connections built into the unit, making it easier when the production calls for the camera to be used a far distance away from the base station. We’ll have a new replay controller for the ZE-ONE extraction system, which allows operators to frame and extract specified HD scenes at any size from 4K sources.”

Since its first introduction into the market in 2012, the FT-ONE has been used in a variety of sports broadcast and digital cinematography applications, including professional football, boxing, automobile racing, ice cross downhill, and wakeboarding events, as well as a NASA rocket launch. The camera has been the recipient of multiple industry awards, including a 2012 IBC Show STAR Award from TV Technology Europe, TVB Europe’s Best of IBC 2012 Award, and most recently, a 2013 Government Video Salute at GV Expo.

The FT-ONE employs FOR-A’s high-sensitivity CMOS color sensor, “FT1-CMOS,” and plays back full 4K (4096 x 2160 pixels). One output channel can provide QFHD (four 1080p 3G-SDI) outputs, while the other output channel provides down-converted HD-SDI for live viewing and play back. The FT-ONE captures images as uncompressed raw data on the system’s internal memory, which has a recording capacity of 9.4 seconds. This data is then stored on one of two hot-swappable SSD cartridges, each of which is capable of storing 84 seconds of full 4K resolution images at 900 fps.

First introduced at last year’s IBC Show, where it won a Best of IBC award from TVB Europe, the ZE-ONE allows FT-ONE users to frame and extract desired 4K image areas to capture the action for HD replays. The 4K extraction system provides operators with an intuitive touch-screen interface to frame and extract specified HD scenes at any size from 4K sources. The ZE-ONE allows users to smoothly zoom in or out, and includes an embedded audio delay processor.
