FSR’s Digital Ribbon Cables Offer Price-Pleasing Solution for Simple Installions

Award-winning Innovation Made Global Debut at InfoComm

Woodland Park, NJ – FSR president Jan Sandri has announced the availability of the Company’s new Digital Ribbon mega-bandwidth HDMI cables. First shown at InfoComm 2013, the innovation received an outstanding reception by attendees, and was recognized with a 2013 Best of InfoComm Award as “Best New AV Accessory” by rAVe [Publications].

FSR’s Digital Ribbon Cables save installation time and money while providing the highest quality Images over the longest distances. Based upon a proprietary composite technology, the cable packs 10.2 Gb/Sec of bandwidth in a cable profile that is only 5mm x 2.5mm. This allows Digital Ribbon to carry 1080p and 4k x 2k HDMI signals up to 325 feet, nearly twice that of other “extended” solutions, with crystal clear accuracy.

“We didn’t want just another ‘me too’ HDMI extender product. In fact, we already have two of those. We wanted something new, something that outperforms everyone else, that is easier to install and costs less. Digital Ribbon is the answer,” exclaimed Sandri

Digital Ribbon is a money saving solution. First, Digital Ribbon is a cable. Simply pull the cable, plug it in on both ends and you are done. Installation could not be faster. Second, Digital Ribbon does not require transmitters or receivers to work. This means no black boxes to hide and no wall warts to plug in. Lastly, Digital Ribbon is far less expensive than an “extender” transmitter / receiver pair and the wire needed to connect them.

Digital Ribbon supports HD resolutions up to 1080p, 4k x 2k, 3D, Deep Color and more at distances up to 325’ while maintaining HDCP and EDID compatibility. Cables are available in a variety of lengths from 50’ to 325’, are UL listed and Plenum rated.

FOR-A IBC2013 Press Preview

Stand 2.A51 at Amsterdam RAI, September 13-17

Chessington, UK – FOR-A Corporation announces its plans at the upcoming IBC 2013 show in Amsterdam next month. The company will show its new compact video switcher series (HVS-XT) and the FA-1010 multi-channel frame synchronizer for the first time in Europe. Other product highlights within the company’s IBC booth will be the FA-9520 multipurpose signal processor and the new MINI M/E feature within the HVS-390HS that creates a virtual 6 M/E switcher.

IBC Debuts – HVS-XT Switcher Series and FA-1010 Frame Synchronizer

The new HVS-XT HD/SD compact video switcher series is designed for live events, news studios, OB vans and corporate production. The HVS-XT100 comprises a separate main unit and control panel while the HVS-XT110 is an integrated single-unit design. Both add many new functions to allow users to easily do more with a very cost-effective unit.

The switchers expand on the established HVS-300 switcher’s functions, including mixed HD/SD input, frame synchronization, multi-viewer, re-sizing engines, multiple 2.5D DVEs, transition effects and an extremely high quality chroma key. Standard features also include two freely assignable keyers and two DSK channels that can be applied to Aux outputs.

The HVS-XT includes a built-in Web server enabling adjustment of settings from a PC or a tablet device. The clip memory within the mixer’s two still stores supports complex moves, such as CG wipe, and has extended capacity as standard. The mixer’s event memory stores up to 100 events and users can customize their control panel via dedicated User buttons. Macros are also included to allow more flexible and creative operation.

The HVS-XT100 offers eight HD/SD-SDI inputs, four outputs and one HDMI output, expandable to 14 inputs and six outputs, or 12 inputs and eight outputs that can be freely assigned. The HVS-XT110 is compact and designed for use in small broadcasting vans and flypacks. This unit has 12 HD/SD-SDI inputs and six outputs, plus one HDMI that can be freely assigned.

FA-1010 offer extreme connectivity – 10 sources to 10 outputs

The FA-1010 is the general-purpose multi-channel frame synchronizer. It is equipped with many functions that are required in video production. Notably, it allows asynchronous signal path routing for up to ten channels of video, and up to 160 channels of embedded audio, with clean-cut synchronized outputs – all within a 1RU box.

It supports 3G-SDI and HD/SD-SDI input/output as standard and includes all the usual frame-synchronizer features as well as RGB color correction – as standard. Audio processing offers delay adjustment and re-mapping functions plus a sample-rate converter. Options include analogue component I/O, Dolby E encoder/decoder, loudness control and analogue or AES audio I/O. The analog audio option even allows mic level input with 48V phantom power.

By combining these diverse options, a single unit can provide optimal processing for all scenarios – including transmission, outside broadcast, news reports, production, editing and distribution. Never before has the synchronization of multiple feeds been so cost effective.

MINI M/E update creates virtual 6 M/E switcher

The new MINI M/E, offered as a standard feature of the HVS-390HS 2 M/E switcher, enables the mixer to deliver the power of a virtual 6 M/E switcher. The MINI M/E extension allows the deployment of any aux-bus transition with cuts, mixes or wipes, and to display a keyer complete with DVE functions.

The new tools can be used to create a richer audience experience for broadcast, house of worship, education and corporate video. Examples include supplying an automatic feed to simultaneously display second-language graphics, or, for house-of-worship productions, to deliver graphics or lyrics on side screens independently of the main screens. In studio productions audience monitors can have separate information such as ‘applause!’ instructions, or the cast can have a dedicated on-set monitor feed. All actions can be controlled from an aux bus remote panel, or the main work surface.

The MINI M/E can be independently controlled or operated from a master/slave configuration. It can also follow any bus on 1 or 2 M/Es, allowing easy one-man operation. MINI M/E can be expanded into a half M/E function, to configure the HVS-390HS as a 2.5 M/E mixer. The half M/E can be controlled remotely where a traditional P/P bus mixer is used with up to four DSKs.

FA-9520 – The Dual-channel Processor

The FA-9520 is a dual-channel multipurpose signal processor. It is equipped for a variety of applications in master control, mobile production, post production services, live production, and more.

The FA-9250 is a dual-channel version of the industry-leading FA-9500 processor and it supports 3G-SDI, HD/SD-SDI, and analogue composite I/O. In addition to frame synchronization, it provides up/down/cross/aspect conversion, two channels of full RGB colour correction, logo inserter functions and an automatic video optimizer (AVO) as standard. Numerous options include analog component I/O and Dolby E encoder and decoder. The wealth of features in the FA-9520 can effectively replace many single-purpose processor units – all in a 1RU box. It is a toolbox for almost any video need, and comes with FOR-A’s legendary signal quality and reliability.

Kensington Church Relies on FOR-A Video Switcher While Transitioning to Full HD Production

Cypress, CA, July 29, 2013 – Kensington Church had been using their existing switcher for years when they decided to upgrade to a FOR-A HVS-390HS video switcher, but the move came sooner than expected when the current switcher gave out right before Easter weekend. The metro Detroit-based church called in local systems integrator Advanced Lighting & Sound to gut out the old equipment, install the new HVS-390HS switcher, have it operational for service the next morning, and show a volunteer how to use it. Thanks to the integrator’s expertise, some hard work, and the user friendly HVS-390HS switcher, Kensington Church went on to produce hiccup-free holiday weekend services and has been relying on the switcher ever since.

“Some of the best things about the HVS-390HS switcher are that it’s simple to use, intuitive, and offers great affordability,” said Dennis Andersen, Kensington Church’s Technical Director. “Our volunteer operator learned how to use the switcher in a matter of a few hours, just in the nick of time for Sunday service.”

Kensington Church has five locations – three are portable campuses and two are in permanent locations. The HVS-390HS switcher is installed in the main church’s control room backstage.

According to Andersen, the flexibility of the switcher is crucial to meet the production needs of Kensington Church. The church uses 2D and 3D effects, streams its services on a bi-weekly basis, employs IMAG (image magnification) in its 1,400-person auditorium and shows the services in the chapel overflow room.

Andersen explained, “We’ve really appreciated the flexibility of the switcher. There are so many assignable buttons and aux capabilities. We’ve been able to do a number of modifications based on our needs. Our production team has really relied on the front control panels that allow us to do secondary outputs at our remote campuses.”

Another key consideration in choosing the FOR-A switcher was its ability to accommodate mixed inputs. Because the church is in the process of upgrading to HD, having a switcher that’s compatible with both SD-SDI and HD inputs was a necessity.

“With Kensington Church migrating to HD, we needed to find a cost-effective, high-quality switcher that fit their needs,” said Bob Sullivan, President of Advanced Lighting & Sound. “FOR-A’s HVS-390HS solution was ideal. The switcher has a plug and play set up, so it’s really convenient for the church to have during their HD transition. And with its mix effects, aux, and keyer capabilities, it offers the features the church needs, at an affordable price.”

Belkin Builds on Cyber Security Strategy with the Introduction of New Secure DisplayPort KVM Switch for Federal and Defense Agencies

New KVM Switch Helps Create a More Unified, Intuitive and Secure Work Environment for Organizations Handling Confidential Data on Separate Networks

PLAYA VISTA, Calif. – July 16, 2013 – Belkin, a trusted leader of technology solutions for cyber security and government agencies, today announced the expansion of its award-winning secure product line with the addition of the Belkin DisplayPort KVM Switch. The new switch offers the ideal solution for federal and defense users who handle sensitive or confidential information and need a seamless, coherent environment working on multiple networks with different security levels.

DisplayPort is increasingly popular with the government sector because it offers high graphics resolution in a non-consumer HDMI format. Unlike HDMI, DisplayPort cables are securely fastened which minimizes down time that results when a loose cable is dislodged. In addition, no licensing fees are required, as with HDMI, and DisplayPort is significantly thinner and smaller than DVI.

While DisplayPort adoption is on the rise, there are security concerns involved with the transfer of information beyond display signals, making data vulnerable and security a challenge. Belkin is the first and only vendor to develop a Secure KVM Switch with support for DisplayPort technology. The switch, which is Common Criteria validated to EAL 4+, includes security mechanisms to protect DisplayPort channels and prevent leakage of information between connected computers and displays. These mechanisms provide isolation even if two connected computers are infected with malicious code attempting to target the KVM.

In addition, users today face a greater demand to monitor a growing amount of data and perform multiple tasks at the same time. Belkin addresses this by making the Secure DisplayPort KVM Switch the first to support up to four monitors on one system. As a result, users can more effectively keep an eye on more data simultaneously for improved intelligence and decision making.

As with all Belkin Secure KVM products, the DisplayPort KVM Switch is designed to thwart cyber-attacks by reinforcing user desktop security with the most advanced and secure commercially available KVM technology available. Additional Secure DisplayPort KVM Switch features include:

  • Protected DisplayPort channel switching – Security mechanisms protect DisplayPort channels, preventing leakage of information between connected computers and peripherals
  • Full support of all DisplayPort 1.2 resolutions up to 3840×2160
  • Dedicated processors with emulators for every port – Isolated port paths for video, audio, peripherals, and smart card readers prevent data leaks between computers
  • Unidirectional data paths – Optical data diodes prevent peripherals from being used to breach systems
  • Display security – Protected display interface prevents data leakage via the monitor
  • Peripheral management – USB device detection prevents unauthorized peripheral usage
  • Anti-tampering – Internal electrical sensors render unit inoperable if opened

“Belkin works side by side with government users to understand the real challenges associated with cyber security. These insights are factored into the design of the Secure DisplayPort KVM and our strategy to expand on Belkin’s secure product line,” said Luis Artiz, director of product management, Business Division, Belkin International Belkin. “We’re committed to investing in innovative solutions that secure the user computing environment and look forward to continuing to unveil new solutions that address cyber security concerns.”

Belkin’s DisplayPort KVM Switch will be available August 1, 2013 through the company’s network of authorized channel partners.
