BHV Broadcast to Broaden Appeal of Syntax Up-Converter Series at IBC 2013

IBC Hall 4 Stand 4.C75

Syntax Will be Demonstrated with Closed Captions Capability for the First Time

Owslebury, UK – BHV Broadcast, BHV Broadcast, manufacturer of rate-converters, up-converters and the innovative coax-powering solution “Video Ghost” is to show integration with Microvideo’s technology at IBC2013, giving closed captions capability to BHV’s Syntax up-converter.

Across the globe, there is an ever-growing requirement in the industry for closed captions as part of the retention of metadata through the broadcast chain. Now broadcasters and producers can enjoy the benefit of Syntax’s unrivalled quality HD up-conversion with closed captions. BHV’s award-winning Syntax up-scaler integration with Microvideo’s HDB 300 bridge (which in itself provides simultaneous data management of control signals, trans-coding, decoding, bridging and copying) will allow broadcasters to utilise the artefact-free performance of the Syntax in distribution and production chains with massive metadata handling capability.

BHV Broadcast’s managing director, Julian Hiorns, says “We are delighted to announce the technology partnership with Cambridge-based Microvideo. The company really understands the needs of complex metadata workflows and is a great industry association for us.”

BHV’s Syntax and Syntax Essence continue to lead the field in picture quality with some viewers finding it nearly impossible to tell native HD from SD footage upscaled by Syntax. Syntax uses Super-Resolution Bandlet technology held by some to be the natural successor to Motion Compensation.

Last year it was revealed that the key BBC Drama strand “EastEnders “ uses Syntax to overcome the challenges of its aging production backlot.

PESA Offers New UHDTV1 Routing Switcher, Retrofit Kits for Europe’s Growing 4K Market

Huntsville, Alabama – In response to Europe’s rapidly growing interest in 4K and ultra-high definition production solutions, PESA, a leading custom design and manufacturing company for professional audio and video signal distribution, is introducing the new Cheetah 4K 16×16 routing switcher and retrofit UHDTV/4K expansion kits for Cheetah 3 Gbps systems. Built on PESA’s proven Cheetah digital video routing platform and utilizing the company’s easyPORT converter module technology, the new 4K routing switcher provides UHDTV1 video distribution up to 600m for 2160p50/60, 10-bit 4:2:2 SDI signals. The retrofit kits provide a simple plug-and-play upgrade solution for current 3G-SDI Cheetah routers.

“Unlike when HDTV was introduced, the European market appears to be more of an early adopter with ultra-high definition television systems,” said Chuck Tillett, president and COO of PESA. “In fact, the ITU has already approved a 4K standard for international program exchange. PESA has developed easyPORT and Cheetah 4K products so production houses can upgrade existing infrastructures to support UHD’s more data-intense workflows.”

Taking up only 4 RU, the compact Cheetah 4K 16×16 router provides all the necessary control elements neatly placed internal to the frame. With hot swappable matrix and I/O cards, as well as internal power and control, the need for additional power and external cabling is virtually eliminated. For mission critical, real-time on-air, and 24/7 operations, redundant power and control modules can be added without using additional rack space. The router is controlled through traditional RS-232/422 or Ethernet connections, and its built-in SNMP MIB simplifies integration to third-party network system management software.

Based on real-time multi-link SDI transmission methods, each Cheetah I/O card includes four SC-style fiber CWDM connections carrying up to 12 Gbps (4xSDI) for each input or output port. The 4K I/O card is a direct drop-in replacement for the standard 16-channel HD/3G SDI card found in current Cheetah frames.

To complete the end-to-end 4K system, an outboard easyPORT module converts the signals from each CWDM port on the router back to conventional HD/3G-SDI video lines. For example, the EASY-4KX1F can transport four BNC inputs from a UHDTV source to the router via a single wire interface and switch the output via 4x fiber, 4x BNC, or 1x CWDM fiber. The EASY-1FX4K module can extend four 3 Gbps output signals over a single wire CWDM fiber up to 600m and convert back to BNCs.

With the built-in crosspoint switch circuit on each easyPORT module, users can also send four independent SD/HD/3G-SDI signals over a single wire interface, which saves valuable cabling space, and can extend coax I/O an additional 80m using the built-in equalizing and reclocking circuits in each easyPORT module. Both UHDTV1 (3840×2160) and DCI 4K (4096×2160) are supported, and the router can mix and match between 4K CWDM and traditional copper or fiber I/O in the frame. The compact easyPORT utility switchers can be rack mounted with an optional 1 RU frame that holds up to four media converters, or they can be installed with an optional under-the-table mounting plate.

Any size Cheetah 3G-SDI routing switcher can be retrofitted with the new Cheetah 4K I/O card system by replacing any existing 16 channel I/O card set and reconfiguring the software to accept the new 4K cards. Once the control software is configured for 4K, the router system can run both 4K and 3G-SDI signals in parallel.

Each easyPORT 4K media module includes Ethernet connectivity for control and configuration, which makes it easy to pre-configure the router to alternatively accept individual 3G-SDI, 2K, and other SMPTE-compliant formats. The router can be configured and controlled via PESA’s intuitive Cattrax network GUI or optional Cattrax Web network server software using PESA’s powerful PERC2000 or PERC3000 system controller hardware.

Orlando, FL – FSR’s new Digital Ribbon mega-bandwidth HDMI cables were a hit with attendees and judges alike at this year’s InfoComm. The cost and time saving innovation received an outstanding reception by attendees, and was recognized with a 2013 Best of InfoComm Award as “Best New AV Accessory” by rAVe [Publications].

“We are proud to add this award to our growing trophy room!” said FSR president Jan Sandri. “It’s an amazing honor to have our Digital Ribbon Cables singled-out as the best-of-the-best by rAVe at InfoComm 2013, an event that showcased more new products and technology than ever before.”

Based upon a proprietary composite technology, FSR’s Digital Ribbon Cables took home the “Best New AV Accessory” award for its capacity to carry 1080p and 4k x 2k HDMI signals up to 325 feet, nearly twice that of other “extended” solutions, with crystal clear accuracy. FSR’s Digital Ribbon Cables Offer Price-Pleasing Solution for Simple Installions

Award-winning Innovation Made Global Debut at InfoComm

Woodland Park, NJ – FSR president Jan Sandri has announced the availability of the Company’s new Digital Ribbon mega-bandwidth HDMI cables. First shown at InfoComm 2013, the innovation received an outstanding reception by attendees, and was recognized with a 2013 Best of InfoComm Award as “Best New AV Accessory” by rAVe [Publications].

FSR’s Digital Ribbon Cables save installation time and money while providing the highest quality Images over the longest distances. Based upon a proprietary composite technology, the cable packs 10.2 Gb/Sec of bandwidth in a cable profile that is only 5mm x 2.5mm. This allows Digital Ribbon to carry 1080p and 4k x 2k HDMI signals up to 325 feet, nearly twice that of other “extended” solutions, with crystal clear accuracy.

“We didn’t want just another ‘me too’ HDMI extender product. In fact, we already have two of those. We wanted something new, something that outperforms everyone else, that is easier to install and costs less. Digital Ribbon is the answer,” exclaimed Sandri

Digital Ribbon is a money saving solution. First, Digital Ribbon is a cable. Simply pull the cable, plug it in on both ends and you are done. Installation could not be faster. Second, Digital Ribbon does not require transmitters or receivers to work. This means no black boxes to hide and no wall warts to plug in. Lastly, Digital Ribbon is far less expensive than an “extender” transmitter / receiver pair and the wire needed to connect them.

Digital Ribbon supports HD resolutions up to 1080p, 4k x 2k, 3D, Deep Color and more at distances up to 325’ while maintaining HDCP and EDID compatibility. Cables are available in a variety of lengths from 50’ to 325’, are UL listed and Plenum rated.

FOR-A IBC2013 Press Preview

Stand 2.A51 at Amsterdam RAI, September 13-17

Chessington, UK – FOR-A Corporation announces its plans at the upcoming IBC 2013 show in Amsterdam next month. The company will show its new compact video switcher series (HVS-XT) and the FA-1010 multi-channel frame synchronizer for the first time in Europe. Other product highlights within the company’s IBC booth will be the FA-9520 multipurpose signal processor and the new MINI M/E feature within the HVS-390HS that creates a virtual 6 M/E switcher.

IBC Debuts – HVS-XT Switcher Series and FA-1010 Frame Synchronizer

The new HVS-XT HD/SD compact video switcher series is designed for live events, news studios, OB vans and corporate production. The HVS-XT100 comprises a separate main unit and control panel while the HVS-XT110 is an integrated single-unit design. Both add many new functions to allow users to easily do more with a very cost-effective unit.

The switchers expand on the established HVS-300 switcher’s functions, including mixed HD/SD input, frame synchronization, multi-viewer, re-sizing engines, multiple 2.5D DVEs, transition effects and an extremely high quality chroma key. Standard features also include two freely assignable keyers and two DSK channels that can be applied to Aux outputs.

The HVS-XT includes a built-in Web server enabling adjustment of settings from a PC or a tablet device. The clip memory within the mixer’s two still stores supports complex moves, such as CG wipe, and has extended capacity as standard. The mixer’s event memory stores up to 100 events and users can customize their control panel via dedicated User buttons. Macros are also included to allow more flexible and creative operation.

The HVS-XT100 offers eight HD/SD-SDI inputs, four outputs and one HDMI output, expandable to 14 inputs and six outputs, or 12 inputs and eight outputs that can be freely assigned. The HVS-XT110 is compact and designed for use in small broadcasting vans and flypacks. This unit has 12 HD/SD-SDI inputs and six outputs, plus one HDMI that can be freely assigned.

FA-1010 offer extreme connectivity – 10 sources to 10 outputs

The FA-1010 is the general-purpose multi-channel frame synchronizer. It is equipped with many functions that are required in video production. Notably, it allows asynchronous signal path routing for up to ten channels of video, and up to 160 channels of embedded audio, with clean-cut synchronized outputs – all within a 1RU box.

It supports 3G-SDI and HD/SD-SDI input/output as standard and includes all the usual frame-synchronizer features as well as RGB color correction – as standard. Audio processing offers delay adjustment and re-mapping functions plus a sample-rate converter. Options include analogue component I/O, Dolby E encoder/decoder, loudness control and analogue or AES audio I/O. The analog audio option even allows mic level input with 48V phantom power.

By combining these diverse options, a single unit can provide optimal processing for all scenarios – including transmission, outside broadcast, news reports, production, editing and distribution. Never before has the synchronization of multiple feeds been so cost effective.

MINI M/E update creates virtual 6 M/E switcher

The new MINI M/E, offered as a standard feature of the HVS-390HS 2 M/E switcher, enables the mixer to deliver the power of a virtual 6 M/E switcher. The MINI M/E extension allows the deployment of any aux-bus transition with cuts, mixes or wipes, and to display a keyer complete with DVE functions.

The new tools can be used to create a richer audience experience for broadcast, house of worship, education and corporate video. Examples include supplying an automatic feed to simultaneously display second-language graphics, or, for house-of-worship productions, to deliver graphics or lyrics on side screens independently of the main screens. In studio productions audience monitors can have separate information such as ‘applause!’ instructions, or the cast can have a dedicated on-set monitor feed. All actions can be controlled from an aux bus remote panel, or the main work surface.

The MINI M/E can be independently controlled or operated from a master/slave configuration. It can also follow any bus on 1 or 2 M/Es, allowing easy one-man operation. MINI M/E can be expanded into a half M/E function, to configure the HVS-390HS as a 2.5 M/E mixer. The half M/E can be controlled remotely where a traditional P/P bus mixer is used with up to four DSKs.

FA-9520 – The Dual-channel Processor

The FA-9520 is a dual-channel multipurpose signal processor. It is equipped for a variety of applications in master control, mobile production, post production services, live production, and more.

The FA-9250 is a dual-channel version of the industry-leading FA-9500 processor and it supports 3G-SDI, HD/SD-SDI, and analogue composite I/O. In addition to frame synchronization, it provides up/down/cross/aspect conversion, two channels of full RGB colour correction, logo inserter functions and an automatic video optimizer (AVO) as standard. Numerous options include analog component I/O and Dolby E encoder and decoder. The wealth of features in the FA-9520 can effectively replace many single-purpose processor units – all in a 1RU box. It is a toolbox for almost any video need, and comes with FOR-A’s legendary signal quality and reliability.
