Professionak Wireless Systems Showcases Range of RF Solutions for Live and Broadcast Events at InfoComm 2014

LAS VEGAS, JUNE 11, 2014-Professional Wireless Systems (PWS), a Masque Sound Company and experts in supplying and supporting wireless systems for live and broadcast events, will showcase its range of RF solutions at InfoComm 2014 (Booth C11816), including its GX Series of Combiners, DB Series of Multicouplers, Helical Antennas, Domed Helical Antennas, and various accessories such as splitters, Dual Bias Ts and receive and transmit line amps.
href=”http://blog.svconline.com/briefingroom/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/PWS-DB-Series1.jpg”>

“InfoComm is the ‘can’t miss’ AV technology show of the year, and we look forward to demoing our range of state-of-the-art RF and wireless equipment to the industry professionals in attendance at the show,” says Jim Van Winkle, general manager, PWS. “In addition to showcasing our RF solutions, PWS representatives will be on hand to discuss our ability to provide onsite install services and show support for wireless systems at broadcast, industrial, live entertainment and media events of any size.”

At InfoComm 2014, PWS will highlight its GX series of combiners, the GX-4 and GX-8, which offer selectable high and low output settings, as well as above unity gain on output. Helpful for very anemic transmitters, the combiners in the GX series are considered RF limiters because of their proprietary Automatic Level Control (ALC) circuitry. The power level of each frequency at the output of the combiner is a maximum of 250 mW licensed, 50mw if not licensed. This is the FCC’s maximum allowable limit for RF in-ear monitor (IEM) systems in the UHF band. The GX-4 is an RF IEM transmitter combiner/booster, compatible with RF signals from major IEM transmitter manufacturers across the radio band from 470MHz to 698MHz. The system accepts input power levels from 20 to 100 mW, with each input containing its own discreet RF amplifier and ALC circuits. The signals are amplified to the power level needed to produce up to 250 mW of RF at the output antenna port.

PWS will also feature its DB series of Multicouplers, including the DB8 (8 outputs), DB16 (16 outputs) and DB24 (24 outputs). These diversity systems are designed to distribute antenna signals to multiple receivers without loss and with high isolation between ports. Outputs can be put into ranges, providing the user the ability for low, middle and high as well as custom ranges for frequencies. The systems all come packed with features providing the user with maximum control as well as two power supplies, ensuring that if there is a power failure, backup is available.

Two of PWS’ flagship product lines, Helical Antennas and the new Domed Helical Antennas, will also be onsite. PWS Helical Antennas, which are perfect for long throws and high gain, have become the industry standard for multichannel wireless microphone, in-ear, and intercom systems thanks in part to their unique characteristics, offering users extreme flexibility. The circularly polarized UHF antennas cover a frequency range of 450 MHz to 950 MHz and offer 14dbi gain and 8.5dbi for the Domed Helical. With an inherent boost in gain, greater bandwidth, and dropout-resistant polarization, PWS Helical Antennas outshine the performance of traditional antenna designs. Popular for use with IEM systems, users can employ these antennas with other UHF systems, including wireless microphones and intercom systems.

For venues and installations where site-line appearance is a priority, PWS Domed Helical Antennas offer a wider angle of coverage that’s perfect for smaller stages and medium gain. Featuring the same circular polarization as the original PWS Helical Antenna, the Domed Helical features a more durable, sealable enclosure, and compact profile. Inconspicuous and robust, the PWS Domed Helical Antenna is a great choice when the requirements of aesthetics and function can’t be compromised.

Additionally, PWS has recently begun to streamline its manufacturing process to accommodate faster turnaround time when it comes to product development. “To continue to provide the necessary support and high-level functionality on today’s in-demand productions, we are constantly looking for ways to improve both our products and our services, as a company,” adds Van Winkle. “We specialize in frequency coordination that is solid, accurate and constant, as is our workflow.”

NEW JERSEY STUDIO ADDS THE BOX

MIDDLETOWN, NEW JERSEY – JUNE 2014: Studio owner and musician Greg Padrusch, better known as LEK, has just commissioned THE BOX by API for his northern New Jersey studio. This becomes the latest sale from Calistro Music, API’s distributor in the tri-state area.

Since purchasing THE BOX, LEK has kept busy reconstructing his studio. Throughout that process, he has still managed to immerse himself in some of THE BOX’s recording features. Soon, his studio will feature state-of-the-art acoustics in its new building, creating the ideal surroundings for mixing.

Early this summer, LEK is also planning on releasing new original singles.

THE FREQ ZONE ADDS API’s THE BOX

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA – JUNE 2014: The final steps are being taken in constructing a brand new recording studio in Jacksonville –The Freq Zone. Studio owner Nathan Hamiel lives a double life as a sound engineer and computer security analyst. To fit the needs of his new recording and mixing space, Hamiel has commissioned THE BOX to provide the rich, classic sound it achieves in an all-inclusive small-format package.

“I love THE BOX. It provides the sonic character of a large format console in a smaller footprint,” shares Hamiel, who was guided through the decision process by Craig Calistro of Calistro Music. “The sound is everything you’d expect from API – big and punchy. I also like the fact I can have it be the centerpiece and augment it with outboard gear of my choice, creating my own personal sound.”

The studio is undergoing its final preparations, including a new mix/master/production room, as well as a custom desk, which will be completed in June.

COOL PONY MEDIA USES THE BOX TO CREATE MUSIC “HAND-DIPPED IN API SECRET SAUCE”

COLLEYVILLE, TEXAS: Located outside Dallas, Cool Pony Media is a record label and artist development company that works with various music genres, as well as score-to-picture work. Brothers and co-founders, Mark and Mike Stitts, recently did a massive upgrade in part of their studio, with help and guidance from API. The team now uses THE BOX console on a daily basis for writing, tracking, creating stems, and mixing.

“We’re amazed,” shares Mark. “We have quite a bit of other API outboard gear, EQ’s, compressors, channel strips, and summing. THE BOX integrates seamlessly. I often wonder – mustn’t there be elves inside creating some kind of magic here?”

The duo was looking to upgrade their composing room when they first heard about the new small-format console from API. “It was really a no-brainer. The sound and flexibility of a full-fledged API console, with that footprint? We must be dreaming, right? BOOM! This thing is a complete home run!”

The brothers have been creating and recording professionally since the 1980s, and say that not much has changed other than the technology. Their careers have included production work for labels, children’s albums, independent artists, and beyond. The experience they’ve had so far with THE BOX stacks up well with their previous experience with the brand. “We’ve always been API fans. The sound is just so fantastic and unique. I remember the first time we ran audio through anything API. It was so dramatic. The punch, depth, clarity, presence – it was almost like removing wool blankets from in front of the speakers. THE BOX is more of the same.”

Cool Pony purchased the gear earlier this year, and appreciated the support they received during commissioning. “The packaging was impeccable, and the support is off the chain. These guys really are the Apple of the recording console industry. We couldn’t recommend API or THE BOX more highly.”

Designed for home and professional studios of all sizes, THE BOX delivers the classic sound that API is known for, and handles all the functions needed for production not provided by most DAWs. “All the releases from Cool Pony Media are hand-dipped in API secret sauce. It’s very much the Swiss Army knife of audio production. Really, THE BOX is the kind of piece you wonder how you ever lived without.”

New PESA Xstream C22 Compact Streaming System Offers Flexible AV Configurations for Sharing Content

Huntsville, Alabama – PESA, a leading designer and manufacturer of professional audio and video distribution solutions, will introduce its PESA Xstream C22 compact streaming system at InfoComm 2014 (Booth C6014), which runs June 18-20 in Las Vegas, Nev. The latest addition to the PESA Xstream family of multi-channel HD IP streaming devices, the C22 includes I/O options for standalone streaming applications or as part of a larger hybrid broadcast system.

The C22 can be configured as a two port video encoder or two port decoder, orcan include one of each. It includes HDMI, coax and Ethernet (for an IP-based camera) video inputs, and optional SFP modules allow multiple configurations (fiber, HD-BNC, A-to-D, D-to-A and other SFP modules) for expanded connectivity. The C22 also supports two external audio sources, which can be synchronized to either or both video streams during an event.

With built-in genlock, video signals can be locked to an external source for glitch-free video switching in broadcast and pro AV applications. An HDMI out allows for local preview, while an integrated Web server allows full remote control, so no personnel are required on site for streaming content to a production facility.

“The PESA XStream C22 is an affordable streaming solution for so many markets, including medical or educational applications, justice and government, security and first responders, and sports and entertainment production. The dollar-to-stream value is significant, especially compared to other products that only offer one video stream,” said Chris Thomas, PESA vice president of engineering and CTO. “It’s a great standalone solution or it can be used with other routing equipment to share content between facilities.”

Multiple C22 units can be used to allow AV professionals to compress, stream and share high-quality content between locations and enable streaming in existing video distribution. The C22 is also an ideal bi-directional content sharing solution. Two C22 units can be configured with one encoder to send video and one decoder to receive video, allowing live interaction between sites.

The PESA Xstream C22 will be available this summer.

Point Source Audio to Launch World’s First Modular Intercom Headset Built for Pro Audio Applications

Petaluma, Calif. — Point Source Audio (PSA), an innovator of the original and one-of-a-kind “Unbreakable Boom” miniature microphones, will introduce its CM-i3 intercom headset—offering a revolutionary combination of in-ear performance, lightweight comfort and earphone modularity—at InfoComm 2014 (booth #C10913). This robust feature set make these headsets ideal for concert venues, front of house operations, multimedia production, personal entertainment and other professional trades relying on convenient two-way communications.

The CM-i3 intercom headset uniquely offers lightweight comfort and the binaural sound isolation required in a wide variety of specialized fields as well as personal communications. Whereas traditional head clamp style headsets can provide excellent sound isolation, their bulkiness and weight is not optimal for sustained wearing. At just 1.8 ounces, Point Source Audio’s latest product is the first to solve this challenge with a patent-pending solution that reduces the weight by as much as 90% compared to traditional headsets, and possesses incredible ease in switching from left, right, or left and right listening modes to create the desired audio mix.

Providing the ultimate in modularity for audio professionals and enthusiasts alike, the CM-i3 headset is designed using Point Source Audio’s superlative EM-3 in-earphones, but users will have the capability of switching out the supplied earphones with in-earphones of their own choice, if desired. The swappable in-earphones feature offers the ability to create a custom product that satisfies users’ personal preferences for audio quality and greatly improves the product’s serviceability and life.

The CM-i3 headset’s binaural capability provides a more dynamic range of use than traditional monaural headsets which are unable to filter environmental audio or interchange between left and right channels. Rather than requiring the user to remove the entire headset to check environmental sounds or interact with others, the user can simply remove one or both earphones to exit the listening mode or monitor a combination of feed audio and surrounding acoustics. This benefit makes it an ideal solution for control rooms, camera operators, stage and screen technicians and a variety of high-noise environments that require selective noise reduction or cancellation and increased audio intelligibility.

“Our new CM-i3 is a declaration to the audio industry that you don’t have to choose between size and comfort versus performance when selecting an intercom headset,” said James Lamb, President for Point Source Audio. “We aim to solve the nagging challenge currently in the intercom headset category. To that end, the CM-i3 leverages our company’s expertise in miniaturization to provide long-wearing comfort, dynamic operability and earphone customization—a first-to-market twist.”

Point Source Audio’s CM-i3 intercom headset will be demonstrated to attendees of InfoComm 2014 (booth #C10913) in Las Vegas and is expected to be available for purchase at a number of resellers and distributors worldwide beginning in Q4 2014.
