Second Generation of IDC’s Widely Deployed STAR Pro Audio Receiver to Be Introduced at NAB2013

Targeted ad insertion, shared hub support, time-shifting and lower bandwidth requirements make this next-level solution unique

Ottawa, ON – International Datacasting (TSX: IDC), a global leader in digital content distribution for the world’s premiere radio and television broadcasters, will launch the second generation of its popular STAR Pro Audio solution at the 2013 NAB Show, April 8 – 11 at the Las Vegas Convention Center (Booth SU3711.)

The second generation of the STAR Pro Audio solution opens up new revenue generating opportunities for radio networks by providing localized ad insertion. The new platform also enables time-shifting functionality, allowing broadcasters to play the right content at the desired time. Broadcasters can now seamlessly adjust for time zones and rapidly adapt to conflicting live programming schedules.

In addition to increasing ad revenues and improving flexibility, the STAR Pro Audio solution significantly lowers per-channel costs through shared hub support. Additionally, it uses up to 70% less bandwidth compared to competitive solutions.

“With this next generation of STAR Pro Audio, radio broadcasters can look forward to two very important things—boosting revenue and lowering their operating expenditures,” said Del Lippert, Chairman of the Board and Interim CEO, International Datacasting. “The platform increases advertising revenues because it enables highly localized ad insertion. The ability to sell more targeted ads—by location, demographic, time zone, or language—means more revenue opportunities across the entire network. “We’re eager to show off our next generation of STAR Pro Audio at the NAB show next month.”

STAR Pro Audio includes a copy split capability that allows operators to send select ads to specific regions or specific receivers. Audio files stored in the receiver can be inserted into live or recorded programming. Cost savings are realized through shared hub support which enables multiple radio networks to share one 4-channel receiver instead of having each network deploy its own standalone, single channel receiver. Additionally, STAR Pro Audio requires just 120 kHz space segment for stereo, as opposed to 440 kHz for competitive systems, resulting in further cost savings.

Industry experts believe there will be a resurgence of radio advertising due to the inclusion of FM radio receivers in smart phones. This will add millions of new FM radios in the market.

The second generation of the STAR Pro Audio solution will be featured at the NAB 2013 Radio PIT in Central Hall:

April 8th, 2:15 p.m. – 2:35 p.m. PT

April 9th, 1:15 p.m. – 1:35 p.m. PT.

Virginia Lee Williams, Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing, and Walter Capitani, Vice President of Product Management, will discuss the second generation of STAR Pro Audio at the above-listed dates and times.

Digital Nirvana to Present at the NAB Show Enterprise Computing PIT

Session will focus on advanced broadcast monitoring for today’s video delivery ecosystems

Newark, CA – Digital Nirvana announces plans to speak at the 2013 NAB Show’s Enterprise Computing PIT, a destination pavilion on the show floor designed to provide attendees with an intimate meeting place to learn about new tools playing an ever-expanding role in the world of media and entertainment. The presentation will focus on advanced monitoring for the broadcast infrastructure and will take place on Monday, April 8 at 3:45 pm.

At the NAB Show, which runs April 8-11, the Enterprise Computing PIT will be located at Booth N6621 in the Las Vegas Convention Center. During the conference, Digital Nirvana will exhibit its broadcast suite of content repurposing and monitoring solutions, including its latest version of Monitor IQ, in Booth N3434.

Digital Nirvana’s CEO, Hiren Hindocha, will co-present with Fereidoon Khosravi, Senior Vice President of Business Development, Venera Technologies. The two companies formed a strategic partnership last year that allows Digital Nirvana to leverage Venera’s quality control and test and measurement components with Digital Nirvana’s flagship Monitor IQ broadcast monitoring solution.

Hindocha and Khosravi will discuss how monitoring systems must mirror the increasing sophistication of the broadcast plants in which they reside. And they will address why high-quality monitoring and analyzing of digital video and audio signals is so important for broadcasters today. No longer should multiple operators have to run between disparate computers to track different broadcast parameters. The ability to cross reference all on-site and off-site systems within an enterprise, harvest metadata, drill down and take action on any issue – all from one central user interface – is what’s expected from a monitoring system today.

Among broadcasters increasingly complex set of monitoring requirements: delivery to more channels, creating a cohesive and revenue-generating mobile and online platform, and providing signals that comply with closed captioning and loudness regulations.

The most advanced monitoring systems can combine signal-monitoring, loudness monitoring, aircheck-logging, archiving, diagnostics/QC, and competitive analysis in one scalable, networked solution.

“Speaking about advanced broadcast monitoring in the context of the larger video delivery ecosystem is a great opportunity for us,” said Hiren Hindocha, president and CEO of Digital Nirvana. “At Digital Nirvana, our focus is to offer our clients an efficient broadcast monitoring system that simplifies their monitoring workflow, helps to reduce operational costs, and easily adapts to evolving broadcast environments. I’m looking forward to being a part of this presentation in NAB Enterprise Computing PIT.”

WORLD’S FIRST DEMONSTRATIONS TO BE HELD AT NAB 2013, BOOTH SL11813

Torrance, CA • Shotoku Broadcast Systems, a well-established leader in manual and robotic camera support and virtual reality tracking, will present the world’s first demonstrations of its Gemini Pan Bar Control System (PBCS) paired with Stagebox by BBC R&D – a powerful, standards-based solution for connecting video, audio and data between remote locations over standard networks. Demonstrations will be held in Stagebox Booth # SL11813.

In addition, an enhanced version of Shotoku’s popular TR-T touch control system and the SPI-Touch unique positional calibration method for Virtual Studios will be highlighted at the show.

Gemini Pan Bar Control System (PBCS) Meets Stagebox!
Shotoku’s revolutionary Gemini pan-bar controlled remote camera system will take a giant leap forward at NAB when it is demonstrated with Stagebox. Gemini offers easy, uncompromised operation for live events and other difficult-to-reach places where cameras are needed, but operators cannot go. When paired with Stagebox, the combined system allows remote control of multiple cameras over standard communication networks at live productions, such as sports events, resulting in tremendous flexibility and significant cost-savings.

Stagebox uses open standards to allow high definition multi-camera productions to link their equipment and move content in real time. The small but powerful Stagebox unit transforms all the audio, video, timing and remote control signals to and from a camera into packet-based IP networks to streamline field production logistics and workflows. Production teams can use low cost switches instead of traditional high-end SDI routers, and full camera operation, including robotics control data, can be achieved through a single Cat6 connection. Shotoku’s Gemini system, a perfect fit for this technology, provides remote camera operation, while maintaining the unique precision control and natural feel of a standard manual pan & tilt head.

TR-T Touch Control System
An enhanced version of Shotoku’s successful TR-T touch control system will be at NAB. TR-T meets the demands of larger, complex facility-wide installations as well as smaller systems. The flexible TR-T system enables any control system in any location to easily and rapidly re-configure control of cameras and studios in other physical locations. Automated functions allow precise control over shot recall, with minimal intervention, enabling an operator to truly multi-task, without losing any on-air flexibility.

SPI-Touch
SPI-Touch offers a totally new way of positional calibration for Virtual Studios. Simply designate two different points through SPI-Touch’s viewfinder and press the button at each of the points. The camera position will be instantly calibrated. SPI-Touch eliminates the need to mark the studio floor and move the pedestal making calibration easy and fast.
