BHV Broadcast to Show Seriously Expanded Video Ghost Series at IBC 2013

IBC Stand 4.C75

Video Phantom Power System to Offer HDMI Monitoring, a Rack-Mount Version, and a Digital Signage Solution

Owslebury, UK – BHV Broadcast, manufacturer of compact, cost-effective equipment for live and post-production will show a seriously expanded Video Ghost series at IBC 2013, Stand 4.C75.

• Video Ghost – Sleek, sexy and affordable, Video Ghost now offers enhanced cable length performance, 12V at 65W up to 150m from the camera or monitor, and comprehensive protection circuitry to prevent inadvertent damage caused by mis-connection. This alternative to batteries is especially relevant for installing cameras or monitors where the supply of power is difficult or hazardous.

NEW at IBC – Ghost now provides optional HDMI monitoring of SD/HD/3G video feeds.

• GhostRack – On show for the first time! The rack-mounted version of BHV’s friendly spirit offers 4 channels of Video Ghost in a 2RU x 19″ rack case with integral power supply and front panel monitoring. Ideal for mounting in an OB and powering four remote monitors or cameras along the video cable!

• Video Ghost is being introduced as a low-cost and reliable power source for Digital Signage applications. The ‘fit-and-forget’ system provides an innovative and unique way to get power to a monitor on a stage floor or in an arena roof, and eliminates the need for local mains power for monitors.

“Video Ghost is ideal for short-term or permanent applications that utilise monitors for digital signage such as entertainment venues, retail establishments and houses of worship,” explained Julian Hiorns, BHV Broadcast’s managing director. “Operational benefits include portability and rapid deployment – important features for mobile productions and difficult locations where monitoring is required, and the flexibility to send or receive video signals and DC power wherever and whenever the need arises.”

BHV Broadcast to Broaden Appeal of Syntax Up-Converter Series at IBC 2013

IBC Hall 4 Stand 4.C75

Syntax Will be Demonstrated with Closed Captions Capability for the First Time

Owslebury, UK – BHV Broadcast, BHV Broadcast, manufacturer of rate-converters, up-converters and the innovative coax-powering solution “Video Ghost” is to show integration with Microvideo’s technology at IBC2013, giving closed captions capability to BHV’s Syntax up-converter.

Across the globe, there is an ever-growing requirement in the industry for closed captions as part of the retention of metadata through the broadcast chain. Now broadcasters and producers can enjoy the benefit of Syntax’s unrivalled quality HD up-conversion with closed captions. BHV’s award-winning Syntax up-scaler integration with Microvideo’s HDB 300 bridge (which in itself provides simultaneous data management of control signals, trans-coding, decoding, bridging and copying) will allow broadcasters to utilise the artefact-free performance of the Syntax in distribution and production chains with massive metadata handling capability.

BHV Broadcast’s managing director, Julian Hiorns, says “We are delighted to announce the technology partnership with Cambridge-based Microvideo. The company really understands the needs of complex metadata workflows and is a great industry association for us.”

BHV’s Syntax and Syntax Essence continue to lead the field in picture quality with some viewers finding it nearly impossible to tell native HD from SD footage upscaled by Syntax. Syntax uses Super-Resolution Bandlet technology held by some to be the natural successor to Motion Compensation.

Last year it was revealed that the key BBC Drama strand “EastEnders “ uses Syntax to overcome the challenges of its aging production backlot.

Increased Functionality to Target Production and Post Production Community

Urbana, IL – Cobalt Digital (www.CobaltDigital.com), manufacturer of award-winning 3G/HD/SD-SDI conversion gear, will announce significant loudness metering enhancements to its COMPASS® and FUSION3G® lines (Fusion 99xx, COMPASS 9085 and 9301 for AES only applications cards) at this year’s IBC2013, at Stand 10.B44. The new features, which will include multi-session loudness metering and logging with timecode input, will specifically be optimized for the production and post-production community’s workflow.

“The implementation of ATSC A/85 and EBU R128 loudness measurements and compliance directives, along with their respective incorporation in both the U.S. and Europe, has yielded great improvements in TV loudness,” explains Chris Shaw, EVP Sales and Marketing, Cobalt Digital. “There is now a growing call from broadcasters for content creators to deliver compliant content – as this will greatly reduce the need for extreme corrections at the broadcast head-ends and aid in maintaining original audio production quality. That’s why Cobalt Digital is excited to be rolling out these important enhancements that will specifically address the needs of the production and post-production community. Cobalt’s extensive range of cards is continually growing, offering innovative solutions for the most demanding applications.”

Cobalt’s wide range of cards will be ATSC A/85 ITU BS.1770-3 and EBU R128 compliant. Other enhancements will include optional LTC input for accurate dubbing, post production and EDLs; full logging of all non-compliant issues; error warnings; and regional and standards variations configurable via Cobalt’s remote control WinOGCP application. Now, WinOGCP provides session store and resume functions (stop/start without loss of placement or data), with subsequent sessions appended to give total session LKFS/LU reading.

An easily obtainable upgrade path includes Dolby Decode/Encode, Linear Acoustic® upMAX™ Upmixing and Linear Acoustic® AEROMAX™ Loudness Processing – dependent on which base card is deployed.

The Cobalt team will be on-hand to offer visitors demonstrations of the new features, as well as other new products and enhancements, at the company’s stand during IBC2013.

COMPANY CONTINUES ROLE AS LEADING PROVIDER OF AUDIO VIDEO SIGNAL Processing 3G/HD/SD-SDI CARDS
FOR VARIETY OF MOBILE, STUDIO AND TRANSMISSION APPLICATIONS

Urbana, IL – Cobalt Digital (www.CobaltDigital.com), manufacturer of award-winning 3G/HD/SD-SDI conversion gear, will offer an array of new and enhanced card-based signal processing solutions to international broadcasters at this year’s IBC2013, at Stand 10.B44. With a line-up that further extends the company’s position as a leader in card-based solutions, Cobalt will unveil the latest in converter technology with its new OBSIDIAN3G™ range of cards, highlight enhanced colour correction features in its 9084 COMPASS® HD/SD-SDI RGB Colour Correction Card, feature extended capabilities of its SPOTCHECK® to provide both a video and audio compliance monitoring and recorded data logging system, as well as show its new fibre units both in card form and in Cobalt’s popular Blue Box Group™ family of throw-down modules.

“We are very much looking forward to this year’s IBC2013 show in Amsterdam and having the chance to meet with both current and potential new customers and demonstrate how we listened to their requests and delivered new and enhanced products to meet their diverse needs – no matter the application,” says Chris Shaw, EVP Sales and Marketing, Cobalt Digital. “From professionals in traditional broadcast spaces to those in mobile trucks, studio and transmission environments, Cobalt is delivering a range of solutions that spans from high quality, fast colour correction and video and audio compliance monitoring to expanded Blue Box and OBSIDIAN3G families at this year’s show. As always, our goal is to keep customers ahead of the technology curve in a competitive market with reliable, cost effective gear.”

New:
• OBSIDIAN3G – a new series of terminal gear cards offers the highest quality performance and improved frame density with pricing sensibility to accommodate all types and sizes of broadcast facilities. The continuously expanding feature-rich OBSIDIAN3G series, developed using the latest chip technology, debuts at IBC2013 with a down converter series that combines low power with a high-density design and the potential to pack up to 20 cards per frame in a dual-channel unit for a total of 40 conversions. Features include 3G/HD/SD-SDI input, frame sync, SDI reclocking, SD-SDI and analog video/audio outputs. The 9501-DCDA auto-detects and down converts SMPTE 425/292/259M formats, performs aspect ratio conversion and can pan & zoom. Three models debuting at this year’s show include: OBSIDIAN3G 9501-DCDA-3G, OBSIDIAN3G 9501-DCDA-HD, and OBSIDIAN3G 9502-DCDA-3G.

Highlights:
• SPOTCHECK, Cobalt’s audio loudness measurement and recorded data logging system, now offers enhanced compliance monitoring and logging capabilities. With up to 16 video channels containing up to 32 audio channels, the newest version – SPOTCHECK-2016 – monitors, meters and logs loudness compliance over extended time-periods and now supports codecs H.264, MPEG2, MP1L2, DD, AAC. Enhancements include Live Audio Meters, Thumbnails, Transport Stream Manager and ASI Gateway. SPOTCHECK also features newly added video monitoring capabilities in the form of notification of Frozen Frame/Audio Dropout, SNMP Alarm Trap and Unit Status and Local Ad Insertion (SCTE35 and DTMB Tones). More features will be on-hand at the company’s stand during IBC2013.

• Cobalt’s 9084 COMPASS HD/SD-SDI RGB Colour Correction Card offers customers a fast and intuitive colour correction option with real-time adjustment features which can easily be made from the company’s award-winning OGCP-9000/CC Remote Control Panel. The remote control panel, intended for FUSION3G® 9900 series and COMPASS 9000 series signal processing cards, was designed with a special emphasis for the COMPASS 9064 and 9084 Colour Corrector cards, and the FUSION3G series +COLOR option. The 9084 offers RGB-space colour correction with YCbCr proc features and frame sync for HD/SD-SDI video streams. The RGB processing controls provide full offset, gain and gamma adjustments. The YCbCr proc controls provide lift, gain, saturation, phase, white clip (hard and soft), black clip, and colour saturation clip – all with user memory. Parameter updates are smooth and responsive, providing real-time adjustments ideal for use during live events. Even though the card provides extensive control of the signal from the RGB perspective, it will continue to pass those signals that fall outside of the RGB gamut. Pluge and YCbCr limit ramp signals pass without modification. When the CbCr saturation clip is activated, the saturation limiting operation will not affect the colour phase.

• Fibre units are now available for Cobalt’s recently released Blue Box Group™ – a range of throw-down modular bricks designed to answer the demand for first class quality, price competitive, signal conversion equipment. This family continues to grow with its new range of fibre units, including Transceiver, Regenerator, Transmitters and Receivers. The units, pathologically compatible with OG fibre cards, allow for analog audio embed and de-embed and provide 3G (1080p59.94/50) support for HDMI models. The compact, rugged, and portable converter boxes are super-easy to use and support SMPTE 425, 292M, and 259M as well as DVB, ASI, and MADI audio on two independent coax-to-fibre paths. Up to six modules can be installed in a single 1RU rack.

FSR Unleashes Multi-Format Scaling Matrix Switcher

Woodland Park, NJ - FSR has announced the immediate availability of the new DVS-MFSW-94XT, a multi-format 9×4 scaling matrix switcher that reduces the challenges associated with integrating legacy analog gear with newly installed digital video products.

The 94XT offers 9 inputs: 4 HDMI with stereo audio, 3 HDMI via CAT x cable, and 2 multi-format analog inputs. On the output side, there are 2 HDMI outputs and 2 HDMI over CATx outputs, each scaled to match the resolution of the display.

“While most new purchases of video equipment are digital, there is an incredibly large installed base of legacy analog equipment already in place. The 94XT extends the life of the legacy gear by allowing it to operate seamlessly alongside the newest digital video equipment,” explained Jan Sandri, FSR president.

The 94XT incorporates intelligent EDID and HDCP management along with high bandwidth ADC’s and scalers to make not only the installation, but the operation of the overall system “Plug-n-Play” simple.

“We felt that it was important for the 94XT to be able to operate flawlessly in environments where users can arrive with nearly any computer, tablet or other video device, plug it in and have it simply work. Too many other products work only in fixed environments and our world is far from a fixed environment,” added Joe Fischer, FSR’s director of engineering.

For additional flexibility, the 94XT has 2 additional balanced stereo audio inputs, 1 unbalanced stereo audio output, and SPDIF outputs for each video output. It can be controlled from the front panel, remotely via RS-232 or TCP/IP, or through the built-in web server.

To realize the full potential of the 94XT, FSR offers the DV-HXT family of HDMI over CATx extenders. They can send 1080p up to 165 feet and plug directly into the 94XT offering extended input and output distances without the need to have additional transmitters or receivers at the switcher. The transmitters are available as standalone “bricks” or as wall plates while the receivers are available in “brick” form only.
