BURBANK, Calif.âŽŻWhen Conan O’Brien took over the â€śTonight Showâ€? (NBC) on June 1, it was the first time in nearly 40 years that the show received a new home. Crews worked for months to prepare the new digs at Universal Studios, the same Hollywood soundstage built in the 1950s and occupied by â€śThe Jack Benny Show.â€?
Jeff Peterson of Green Audio was contracted by ATK AudioTek (Valencia, California) to handle the design and act as project manager for Conanâ€™s â€śTonight Showâ€? sound system, and as part of the massive undertaking, chose two Yamaha PM1D digital audio consoles and an M7CL for the theater. (more…)
The Show Goes On With 350 Microphones, 16 Wireless Channels
NASHVILLE, TN, June 18, 2009 â€” Broadcast live from the Grand Ole Opry on Gospel Music Television, the 40th Annual GMA Dove Awards relied on audio input provided almost entirely by Shure. A total of 350 microphones were allotted to the task, 16 of which operated on Shure UHF-RÂ® wireless channels. Among these 16 channels, 12 worked with either KSM9 or Beta 58AÂ® handheld transmitters used for performances by Shure endorsers, including Chris Tomlin, Third Day, Natalie Grant, and MercyMe. Grant â€“ who appeared before the crowd with a KSM9 â€“ also took home Female Vocalist of the Year honors, joining other Shure endorsers Casting Crowns (Group of the Year), her husband, Bernie Herms (Producer of the Year), and Third Day (Best Pop/Contemporary Album) as the evening’s big winners. The goals for this theater were high performance, sleek styling, and sound isolation. A blend of diffusive, absorptive, and reflective surfaces were meticulously combined to create an impressive design while enhancing performance. Unique, curved beams with LED accent lights and built-in spot lights allowed for flexible lighting scenes without any penetrations in the ceiling. Considerable time and expense went into the construction of the room shell for optimal isolation and performance. A large isolation transformer was installed to ensure clean, plentiful power to the theater equipment. (more…)
