As one of the largest confederations of FIFA, UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) is arguably the most influential, and its Championship Games make headlines across Europe and beyond. An estimated 1.3 million international fans packed stadiums across Switzerland and Austria to watch 16 nations compete in the month-long countdown, culminating with Spain claiming the title in Vienna on June 29.
More than 800 Meyer Sound loudspeakers were used in five stadiums, provided by Geneva’s Skynight Sound & Light and 19 other Meyer Sound rental partners, with support from Niveau 2, Meyer Sound Spain and Rental Multimedia Systems. On August 22 â 24 at San Franciscoâs Golden Gate Park, the first Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival will treat a record audience to more than 60 bands; including headliners Radiohead, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, and Jack Johnson, in addition to Beck, Ben Harper, Steve Winwood, Wilco and Primus. More than three decades after “The Joker” topped the charts, classic rock icon Steve Miller shows no signs of slowing down. Now in the midst of a 37-city North American tour, the Steve Miller Band is still rocking sold-out arenas with renditions of his considerable catalog of hits, and previewing songs from his forthcoming album, accompanied by special guest Joe Cocker.
Clearwing Productions is supplying audio for the tour, a powerful Meyer Sound system comprising two hangs of 14 MILO and one MILO 120 line array loudspeakers per side. Eight M’elodie line array loudspeakers cover front fill duties, with two hangs of four MSL-4 loudspeakers as side fills. Recently installed with a versatile Meyer Sound system, the 1,324-seat Akasaka ACT Theater in Tokyo is a multi-use venue designed to host a wide range of shows, from Broadway-style productions to symphonies, opera and dance. It is also part of the city-within-a-city of Tokyo Broadcasting Systemâs Akasaka Sacas as other large corporations successfully created complexes that are essentially micro-neighborhoods surrounding their headquarters in the high-density environs of Tokyo, including Fuji Televisionâs Odaiba, TV Asahiâs Roppongi Hills and Nippon TVâs Shiodome. Few live events have the power to draw an audience of billions, but the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics easily surpassed that landmark. The largest international sporting event of the 21st century was also the most technically complex Olympics ceremony ever, broadcast for the first time in High Definition and surround sound.
