Videosonics Buys DK-Technologies Audio Meters

As part of the re-equipping its main 5.1 television mix room, audio post production facility Videosonics has installed a DK-Technologies MSD600M++ audio meter, which is specifically designed for monitoring stereo and surround sound audio.

The latest purchase means that Videosonics is now 100% equipped with DK-Technologies audio meters, with a Master Stereo Display (MSD) unit in every one of its studios. (more…)

One of the biggest advantages of the Internet is its ability to set people free from the constraints of the traditional office environment. Running a company with little more than a laptop and a modem connection is now entirely possible, as renowned audio engineer Peter Watts has discovered.

For the last four years, Watts has been operating his R&D consulting business Stonepower Ltd from wherever he happens to be in the world. At present, he is based in South Wales but he has also spent time in Hong Kong and China, working alongside manufacturers producing a range of equipment, from mixers and signal processing units to amplifiers and line array speaker systems. White Mark Completes Its 100th Audio Post Room In Soho

Acoustic and technical design company White Mark Ltd is celebrating its 10th anniversary by completing its 100th audio post production control room in London‘s Soho.

By the end of November, Envy‘s Studio D will be open for business. The studio, which is the sixth audio room at the White Mark designed six floor complex north of Oxford Street, is configured to work in surround sound with a separate booth for voice over contributions. It complements the full range of suites originally built into the complex, which range from the two track laying rooms to the Dolby licensed Studio A. All are equipped with White Mark woven screens chosen for their acoustic transparency and full surround monitor systems by Exigy. (more…)

Cakewalk & Roland Systems Group Create Recording Option for REAC Systems

Cakewalk, in partnership with Roland Systems Group, announces SONAR REAC Recording System, a multi-track recording package for REAC Systems. Cakewalk has developed technology that captures audio via a PC’s Gigabit Ethernet port from any REAC device for recording directly into Cakewalk‘s SONAR recording software.

The SONAR REAC Recording System is a complete software and hardware solution. The heart of the system is an enhanced version of SONAR Producer Edition, capable of recording 40 tracks of audio from the Gigabit Ethernet port on a Window‘s based PC. A Cakewalk SPS-66 Firewire Interface is included to enable audio monitoring at the recording PC location.

Roland Systems Group announces a REAC Optical Converter

Roland Systems Group announces an optional fiber optic data converter for the RSS Digital Snakes and V-Mixing System. The RSS S-OPT allows users of the M-400 V-Mixer , and S-1608 and S-4000 Digital Snake systems to easily extend transmission distances up to two kilometers. Housed in a robust half-rack chassis, the S-OPT converts RSS REAC data from Cat5e Ethernet to dual-core multimode optical fiber. The REAC protocol allows the transmission of up to 40 channels of 24-bit 96KHz digital audio. Major Chicago Newspaper Uses Canon U.S.A.‘s XH A1 HD Camcorder to Capture Multimedia News

Look carefully. The picture that appears on the front page of tomorrow‘s Chicago Tribune may not be a “photograph” at all. It might be a frame-grab from a high-definition digital video camcorder. Either way, readers will not be able to tell the difference, and there is no reason they should need to. A great, high-quality picture has value because of its content, not because of the camera that captured it. As valuable as that image may be, however, imagine how much more impact it can have when it is not only seen in print but also displayed as part of a motion-video sequence on that newspaper‘s Web site.
