First Lutheran Church of Galion Lights Up Sanctuary with Hitachi CP-WX8265 Projector

Hitachi_FirstLutheran_2Galion, Ohio, October 8, 2014 – Needing an upgrade to its video technology, the First Lutheran Church of Galion, Ohio, sought out a fix with help from IT professional and Church member John Renock. The church found its solution in the Hitachi CP-WX8265 projector, which offers high brightness and ease of use.

The First Lutheran Church of Galion has approximately 550 members, with 80-100 people attending regularly on Sundays. A former pastor installed a projector in 2003 to present hymns and sermon graphics. Over time, the quality deteriorated and the church began looking for an upgrade.

Mr. Renock explained the need for a new projector in the church. “The projector is used in the sanctuary and projected onto the front wall, said Mr. Renock. “It presents an announcement loop and full service liturgy and lessons.”

The need for a new projector serves more purposes than one. “We are able to provide the congregation with a source other than hymnals and bulletins to follow the service,” explained Mr. Renock.

The new Hitachi projector received positive comments from multiple people in the congregation. Mr. Renock added, “It is much easier to use with the remote than our previous projector. And jumping from a faded, 3,000 lumen image to 6,400 lumens make the images more intense and visible. It’s amazing!”

St. Louis Symphony Optimizes Capabilities for Recording and Live Broadcast with HARMAN’s Studer Vista 5 Digital Console

Studer_StLouisSymphonyST. LOUIS, Missouri – Looking for a digital console to meet its needs for high-resolution recordings and live radio broadcasts, the prestigious St. Louis Symphony found the ideal solution in HARMAN’s Studer Vista 5 console. Offering 128 channels at a 96kHz sample rate, the Vista 5 has given the Symphony tremendous versatility, redundancy and world-class audio quality

The St. Louis Symphony is currently in its fifth season of broadcasting, where each of its Saturday evening orchestral series performances are aired live on St. Louis Public Radio 90.7-KWMU. “It’s truly a live broadcast, nothing is pre-taped,” said Paul Hennerich, lead engineer for the St. Louis Symphony and owner of the Pan Galactic Company. “The Vista 5’s redundancy and flexibility have really made a difference this season. And the board also enables us to work with multiple streams during the performances.”

Not only are the Saturday performances aired live, but the entirety of the St. Louis Symphony’s concerts are also recorded in 96k, with some of them being used in releases of John Adams’ music by subscription through Nonesuch Records. “For our recordings with Nonesuch, the Vista 5 was one of the few consoles that had the ability to do high-resolution recordings that we need to track,” Hennerick said. “And, of course, the sound quality is phenomenal, so the console hit all the requirements we had.”

Hennerich noted that the Vista 5’s speed in live situations has enabled him to work efficiently and quickly. “The Vistonics™ interface is just incredible,” he said. “Having the touchscreen built in with the physical controller is a huge difference from other consoles. Other consoles might have the touchscreen feature, but it isn’t integrated with a physical controller.”

In addition, the Vista 5’s EQ capabilities also sold the St. Louis Symphony on the console. “With classical music you need a phase-accurate EQ to really bring out the subtleties of the orchestral performances,” Hennerich noted. “We also have the Vista FX feature with the built-in Lexicon effects. Having the ability to adjust multiple reverb sends at the same time makes the workflow that much faster. Also, being able to have two engineers work on their own control surface has been a nice feature.”

Looking ahead, the St. Louis Symphony will be adding the new Infinity Core™ processing engine to its Vista 5. “The current DSP core we have is pretty great, but I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do with the Infinity Core,” Hennerich said. “The sky is the limit for us!”

DPA Microphones Makes Incognito’s Percussion Sound Crisp and Clear

Joao Caetano Incognito 1

Jazz Funk band Incognito celebrates its 35th anniversary this year and to mark the occasion the band was recently filmed at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire for a live convert DVD.

To ensure that the sound was as a tight as possible, Incognito’s percussionist Joao Caetano took along his own selection of DPA microphones including four d:vote™ 4099 Instrument Microphones and a stereo pair of d:dicate™ 4011A cardioid microphones, which were used as overheads for the recording.

“Normally I use d:dicate™ 4011A Cardioid microphones for studio work and rely on the d:vote 4099 Instruments Microphones for live performance. But on this occasion we were recording audio for a DVD so I supplemented the line-up with the d:dicate 4011As because I wanted to capture the best sound possible. Our front of house engineer, Chris Lewis, was very happy that I had brought them out of the studio for the task. He always insists that I use my DPAs on all our gigs.”

25-year-old Caetano is a fully fledged member of Incognito having joined Jean Paul ‘Bluey’ Maunick’s band in 2010. Originally from Macau, he came to the UK to study Music at Chichester University. Since graduating he has worked as a professional percussionist in the UK and has also composed and recorded music for television. Alongside his Incognito projects, Caetano has also worked and performed with the likes of Chaka Khan, Leona Lewis, Jessie J, Dionne Bromfield, Mario Biondi.

“Although I am primarily a percussionist, I am also very melodic because I studied violin for 12 years and guitar while I was at university,” he says. “I incorporate an awareness of other instruments into my work and I do like to capture the best sound possible, both in the studio and on the live stage. This is the main reason why I invested in my own selection of DPA microphones – in my opinion they are the best microphones in the world. They wipe the floor with everything else.”

Incognito tours every year and 2014 is no exception. The band are currently performing at various venues around Europe and Caetano takes his trusted d:votes with him wherever he goes.

“I use them on my congas and bongos because they deliver a really crisp, clear sound,” he explains. “They are very reliable and, of course, very portable because they are so small. I love the fact that they are well engineered and that they can be used on a range of instruments thanks to the clips that DPA has designed for them. Everything about them is good – even down to the cables and the case they come in. Compared to other microphones, they are streets ahead and once you have tried them you never go back to anything else.”

Joao Caetano is also working on a solo album project and says this will be recorded with DPA microphones because he wants it to sound ‘beautiful’.

“I’m playing guitar on this album and I’m definitely using my d:dicate 4011A microphones to capture that,” he says. “I have also been recommending DPA microphones to other musicians that I work with and am more than happy to point them in the direction of DPA’s UK distributor Sound Network, who were a great help when I was buying my own microphones.”
