When Bosch Talks (quietly)

First let me say: Bosch is a PA company (well they make them among other things) and yet amplification was conspicuously absent from their booth press conference this morning. So I’ll be candid—I couldn’t hear a lot of it. Certainly visually it was fairly dramatic for a tradeshow—with a backdrop of the Midas Mixers, how could it not be?

Normally I would just wait until I could check up on everything, but I got the impression this was an important and timely announcement so I’ll just share what I can. (update: our reporter Dan Daley has better hearing so get more from him here).

John Oakley, the UK-based managing director of Midas Consoles (and Klark Teknik) stood next to Lynn Martin, of Canada-based JAM Industries. This little bit of theater represents the alliance of two class operations to form Midas Consoles North America (and I could have heard the name wrong). Point being, the formidable Midas will now be distributed in North America by the formidable JAM.

Sanyo Press Conference

Sanyo PLC-XP200LSanyo really wanted to impress; somehow the four-piece orchestra didn’t seem to fit though, but it was a nice relaxing touch at the end of the day. After a delayed start and ironically multiple mic checks, the presentation got under way. Company VP Keiichi Yodoshi gave the storied history of the company’s projector timeline; Sanyo released its first projector model in 1989, and last year, the company released its first super-short-throw projector, with many milestone models sprinkled throughout. It really signified how far the company and the technology has come, and just where the company is headed: 8.8 million Sanyo units are projected to be sold in 2010, working from a steady 15 percent yearly increase average of projector market saturation the company has seen. more…

Visix is Not What I Thought

Digital Signage is a crowded and sometimes confusing marketplace of hardware, software, systems and services. There are a lot of in points. Today at the Visix press conference it was clear what Visix potentially brings to the mix.

President Sean Matthews did a brief overview backed by screen shots of the software which immediately started to suggest it’s applications as a content management and delivery system. Here’s the most important thing I got my head around: Visix turns every screen into a sign. That’s because it’s browser based software that enables distribution of a range of content elements (Flash, photos, power point, etc.) to any device–not just the usual sigange LCDs, but to desktop computers, mobile phones, PDAs, etc. anything with a screen capabile of carrying the content and reading an RSS. more…

Sony Press Conference

Sony VPL-ES5 at InfoComm 08Sony always offers a bracing start to InfoComm with its annual 8 a.m. press conference on the first day of the show. This year the focus was projectors, digital signage, and new installations of the company’s super-high-end SXRD 4K and 2K projectors.

Sony is introducing 10 new projector models here at the show, including four in its VPL-E compact series. Designed for classrooms and conference rooms, these range from 2000-2500 lumens and shoot an 80in. image typically from about 7.5ft.
