Harman announced that technologies from its JBL and BSS Audio brands form the critical core of the sound system for the United States Pavilion at the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, China, running May 1 to Oct. 31. An estimated 70-plus-million attendees over the course of the next six months will experience performances in the $61 million, 60,000-square-foot, glass-walled U.S. Pavilion, which will feature four separate performance spaces that will be used for multimedia performances, with live performances taking place just outside in the plaza near the queue.Â
The sound system’s components, installed and integrated by audiovisual company Electrosonic , include PRX512M powered monitors from JBL’s portable systems and VRX Series VRX932LAP powered two-way line arrays and VRX918SP 18in. powered subwoofers. Both the PRX and VRX series loudspeakers were part of the live stage equipment and run through the Harman soundboard. Other loudspeakers used included JBL’s Application Engineered series, such as AC2215/00 compact two-way loudspeakers, as well as JBL’s Control 26CT and Control 25AV from its Control Contractor series of installed loudspeakers. These loudspeakers are processed by BSS Audio Soundweb London BLU-160 signal processors configured using Soundweb London Architect software and controlled via Harman’s HiQnet control protocol.
At the Macau Pavilion, a Medialon Manager Control System controls and synchronizes all AV devices installed inside and outside 33,910-cubic-foot building. The design of the building was inspired by rabbit lanterns, which were popular in southern China in ancient times. It is covered by a double-layer glass membrane and fluorescent screens. The exterior is made of thousands of LED lights, which change colors to create a splendid show.
Avant Video Systems (AVS), an Israel-based integrator company, was in charge of the entire Medialon setup and AV devices integration. AVS is now in charge of supervising the system during the expo.
Two Medialon Manager Pros control more than 130 Sanyo projectors, 130 PCs running Dataton Watchout system, 20 plasma screens, two Binloop video servers, two fog screens, five BSS London Audio processor, one PLC system used to control the indoor motorized rabbit lantern, as well as the entire lighting and sound systems installed in the pavilion.Â
